I enjoyed the game as it was a totally different experience to what you expect from game jams.

Theme was spot on - you don't want to get sparkly things! Music was good and fitted the retro vibe.

10/10 dolphins

Developer

begs the question... What *do* you expect from game jams? 😅

Very cool idea, part retro arcade quarter-eater, part rhythm/matching game, really great work!

Neat arcade-y game, reminded me of classic snake which I love! Pretty fun challenge, really enjoyed the music speeding up to fit with the progress too. I would have liked to see the UI a little bigger on the game screen, I was frequently looking up to check which colour to avoid.

Glad you enjoyed it!

The loops to avoid also emit a particle trail, but I added that too late to update the in-game instructions (>.<)

I enjoy the game concept and I’m a fan of the art style, but while I think it fits the theme it doesn’t feel like an intrinsic fit (i.e. I would not have thought about the theme just from playing the game, I only thought about how it relates when the question was posed by the rating system – I think this is partly the fault of the theme itself though).

I would have appreciated movement starting slower though to “ease in” to the speed, so the first few rounds were a bit rough while I adjusted to it.

Good point re: the speed, especially considering that it only gets faster as you continue as well!

I tried to do something as a logical "next step" from the obvious interpretation of the theme and I felt it was tenuous at best but I had limited time so ran with an early idea.

Thanks for playing and the feedback!

It was a little hard at first to notice which loop was the one that shouldn't be touched, but once I notice that it had a trail, it really helped out. Having some form of indicator that tells the player what the next banned colors will be would be pretty nice.

Other that, I like the idea and the mechanic!

Good job!

Good idea for a "warning indicator" of sorts, if I develop this further I'll definitely consider it.

Thanks for playing and feeding back :)

Perfect music for this game, excellent execution and polish on this entry. I loved the concept simple yet effective. I played for ages :P. I like how the loops colours were adjustable in the main menu as well, a nice touch.

Glad you enjoyed it! I just watched your stream portion on it, I'm glad someone noticed the music speeds up with the gameplay! (hint for if you revisit, the "poisoned" ones emit particles in the play area as well as the indicator at the top).

i like how i can make them all the same color and do my own hard mode

Developer(+1)

what score did you reach in the souls like version then? xD

thanks for playing!

It's like a reverse asteroids mixed with snake! I really liked how it felt to control and I thought it was really fun overall!

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for playing!

At first, I thought that the blinking loop was the one you were supposed to collect and avoid the other ones. This is an excellent implementation of the theme! I love the art style, and it is very fun!

Cool gameplay mechanic!
