In what way does your game fit the theme?
Taking and giving back souls (rewinding life), and levels start over automatically and often after failings part of the level or death.

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote it myself, assets used are for the graphics/ animation not the code. Used brackeys video's for some code too ;)

The game is pretty interesting, the graphics, intro and audio is really good.

a couple of bugs I found were this:

when moving forward and shooting player goes up for no reason, and can basically fly

the souls can be easily missed, ruining levels.

the player shoots in the direction its walking, not the direction its aiming, so its really hard to fight.


overall, its a good game, and with some more polish would be pretty interesting. Nice Work :D

This is a very cool game with an amazing intro (the text should be more readable) but the gameplay needs some polish. In the first level you could fly between platforms, and sometimes be over the enemies, the soul skill not always works as expected and (personal opinion) I'd change the aim controls, I'm not a big fan of rotating the camera in a top-down game with the mouse. Having said this, I think the main problem was overscoping,  because the potential that has this game is not something that you can easily accomplish in 1 week. So, amazing job, this is an ambicious and great submission that can become a very good game.

I loved the intro! The graphics and music were on point and it almost felt like I was playing something much bigger.

When the main game started though, I had some serious issues.

Great!

  • Intro is fantastic and cinematic
  • Nice use of color
  • The music was pleasing
  • I like the idea of the rewinding mechanics

Could be improved

  • The controls feel very clunky and there are no instructions on what do exactly
  • The character was floating above everything, meaning I couldn't hit enemies and they couldn't hit me. I was also able to float between platforms. This is a glaring bug, but I'm not sure how I managed to do that.
  • The game doesn't lock the mouse, so the game constantly lost focus with my 3 monitors while I was trying to look and move

This game has potential, but I feel like too much effort was put into the intro while the main game could've used some more love.

I found a bug that if you are on an edge of a platform with yellow outline and you attack with the sword you can fly through the level..

Great atmosphere and visuals!

I wanted to play the game in windowed mode, but it didn't work.

The intro cutscene was amazing of course. But I noticed a few things about the text, also in the game. If you use blue text on a blue background, it's very hard to read. And in the game, it was yellow text on mostly yellow background. The font you've used is also very condensed, which is not great for readability. And then I couldn't read some text because it wasn't long enough on screen. As a general rule make sure to have text at least on screen for twice the amount it takes you to read it, better three.

The first level wasn't a great tutorial. Everything was very fast-paced, especially with the cutscene. And the controls are really not that great. I wasn't able to kill the last enemy. I think I needed my sword. There was just so much stuff on that level with only one checkpoint. So I always had to redo everything. That got so frustrating, I eventually quit the game. That's a bummer because it really looks cool and has atmosphere.

I'd really recommend doing some playtesting, even on a game jam game. It is tremendously helpful in getting the tutorial right and making the game accessible.

Nonetheless, the visuals and cutscene alone made taking a look worth it.

I tried playing the game multiple times but got knocked up in the air so that I got stuck and couldn't continue. I have attached a screenshot.

yeah it really sucks, i had a fix for this but deleted a few colliders last minute that broke that fix :( i did have a version where the coliders are back but could not upload it anymore

In terms of graphics and level design, the game seems awesome. But there are some bugs that need to be considered, namely considering that I can sometimes walk out of the main platforms, and even with soul power, I can't shoot it. Also the story is pretty nice (although the bright yellow ended up being a little annoying for me).

That was an awesome story. I did notice a few bugs where you could walk anywhere. It bothered me that the souls coming to you would miss a lot.

Really nice job setting up the graphics and sounds as that can be difficult, I see that you got them from an asset pack and with that said I think you should use more of the time of the jam to focus on play testing your game and fixing bugs in the code. Like Brackeys always says it is super important to play test or have other people test your game!

Also there are some grammar mistakes in your intro story cutscene, another reason it's good to have others test your game for you :]

Overall you could really make something nice out of this game, it's mechanics (loved the soul ammo) and story are really thoughtful.

Visuals, Sounds and animations were incredible good, but the gameplay has so much bugs that wasnt funny anymore. Maybe next time more focusing on the gameplay, or just making the game scope smaller, i really believe that you can produce good games.

The graphics are easily one of the bests I've ever seen, the concept is neat and really wonderful but the execution sadly wasn't that good.

There is a lot of bugs, I can easily cross invisible floors, sometimes my characters is way higher and not even close to to the floor, floating like everything is normal. The game has a lot of inconsistencies and that makes it harder to understand the mechanics of the game. There was also not enough guidance and tutorial at the beginning, like, what does that yellow shards do? when I clicked lmb near them, They gave me a orb, but sometimes not? idk, it was pretty confusing but really cool to try it, the introduction was amazing  and graphics too but when the gameplay started was really messy. Also camera is weird but you can get used to it.

Anyway it is a cool game but it feels more like a tech demo then a game but nice job!

To be honest, this game was great. Graphics, Audio, and cutscenes set the idea of the game perfectly, until the gameplay. the movement is good, but shooting souls, dashing, and the life-stealing was all very buggy. Souls could just get stuck if you shot them to a wall, and wont come back. Dashing into a closed gate would sometimes put you on the other side. And sometimes you could just walk on air straight through the level. Sorry for being such a critique, but i hope you notice this and fix it to improve your game. Otherwise, a nice entry for the jam.
