I beat it! that was awesome, definitely makes me want to play more levels.
It also took me a minute to figure out how to play, probably because there wasn't any feedback when I was selecting other castles to attack and the menus were a little glitchy, I couldnt send troops to another one of my towers when the receiving towers menu was open. Maybe theres some kind of fix for this.
Really fun game, the premise and everything down to the sounds was really enjoyable. I played this with another person and we both were really getting into the game. We found a bug where you don't progress to the next level after someone wins, so we had to play on what i assume from your screenshots is the first level, which had this big white text on the screen which was kind of obstructing our level. Regardless we still had fun! there is a lot of potential in this concept and the fun character sprites along with the sounds fit nicely with the vibe of the game.
I would add a computer opponent for those who cant experience the full game due to not having a controller or person to play with. It is really f u n.
This is immensely helpful, thank you so much! I love your ideas and your feedback is spot on. I will be using these reviews as a guide to update my game and yours is at the top of the list.
I especially appreciate the coding advice since this is obviously my first serious endeavor into unity and it was tough but a lot is starting to make sense after one week. I understand what you are saying about using boxcast instead of raycast, great idea btw, and also about the undo button using a list of clones. Super helpful.
Thanks for playing and leaving a thoughtful review, hope you have a great day today!
Thanks so much for the thorough reply!! That is exactly what I’m looking for to develop my game further, I really appreciate you giving my game your time and feedback. I’m going to take all of this into account when revising my game.
You are not at fault for the volume, since I was crunched for time I didn’t add my chip tune beat to the game, but sound and music is coming on the other side of the jam. All your other comments were very helpful and though I didn’t respond to each one, I’m going to use your review as a guide for sure.
Thank you very much!
Well done with this game, it really shines. The pixel art is incredible, I love the retro color palette and the menu animations were great too. There was one thing I noticed which was the character sprite when jumping does not have a complete white outline around it like it normally does. It's missing a white line on top of its hat, which is nitpicky but maybe you missed it and I can help by saying this :]
Overall amazing game and I hope to see more levels. I didn't think they were too easy, but maybe they will eventually be the first few levels before they start to get more difficult.
This game is really good looking and unique. The art style is really nice, it has this cosmic-pixel kind of vibe, which matches the main theme perfectly. It's both challenging and replayable which are great and I think that means you could add a ton more levels if you wanted to.
A couple things I can suggest to bulk up the game would be some background music, something cosmic like I said before, maybe it changes every level or something.
Also, I saw another comment of yours talking about story, which I definitely want more of from this character and its temporally-messed up world. Nice job, keep it up!
Those both look like great games, I will check them both out today and leave honest reviews & ratings.
I'd love some feedback on my game trail_r: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/724475
Mainly looking for what I can do with this concept in terms of other gameplay elements, since the level design was the toughest part for me personally. I'm most likely going to add doors that need to be opened by pushing buttons around the level. Any ideas or feedback is hugely appreciated!
Cool sprites, and the movement feels okay but the camera jumps a lot which makes it feel a little weird.
The concept is really interesting, I appreciate the act of documenting this year in game form. Maybe the sprites could be somehow relevant to the story the text is telling. Also some kind of solemn music or something would be really fitting.
Nice job!
Wow, this game is GOOD. The graphics, the perfect comedic theme, and the ONOOOO!
I think what really makes this game stand out aside from the fact that it is really solid in terms of character control and movement, is the attention to detail you have put into it, like the hair wobble!!!
All else I can ask for is more detail in the background, but the simplicity does work well with the gameplay as is.
Thank you for making this game, for real!!!
Really nice job setting up the graphics and sounds as that can be difficult, I see that you got them from an asset pack and with that said I think you should use more of the time of the jam to focus on play testing your game and fixing bugs in the code. Like Brackeys always says it is super important to play test or have other people test your game!
Also there are some grammar mistakes in your intro story cutscene, another reason it's good to have others test your game for you :]
Overall you could really make something nice out of this game, it's mechanics (loved the soul ammo) and story are really thoughtful.
