In what way does your game fit the theme?
Joel has to rewind time (Walk backwards through the levels) and get the ingredients for his
sandwich

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes all of the code was owned by me. Some assets were reused from other projects.

The art and assets in general look very well made, I think it's a very good strong point to have.

However the game feels off in game play. The enemies go at the same speed as you and there's a bug where they won't get off of your head making it almost impossible to take damage or kill them, the camera is too skewed to the left making it hard to see what's coming up in the level, other then that I think the game can improve with time and effort and I hope to see more of your work in the future.

Thanks for playing! Those are things I'm working on right now and hopefully an update will come out soon.

I didnt really understand the rewind part of the game, but it looks nice, and i like the game feel.

I like the game overall, it has a fairly simple story and the theme is lightly touched upon but the art and sound are where the game truly shines.  My only complaint is the enemies track you to well even when in the air, making it hard to position your character to shoot at them.

LOVED THIS GAME! It was super fun and I enjoyed the art! I kept jumping on top of toast dudes and rode them throughout the level, and the last level was hilariously awesome! Just played it on my stream and my viewers also loved it. Superb work!

Wow thanks!

What's your channel name and on what streaming platform? I'll check it out!

Nice game! I love the silly art style and the crazy particle effects! Not bad for your first itch upload

The game looks really cool! Nice job on the blood splatters as well.
The jumping does feels a bit floaty though. You should probably increase the gravity. I usually start with 20 and sometimes even go up from there.
The camera is also really close. For the big jump in the level, I can't even see what I'm jumping over.
Also, I couldn't figure out how to rewind time. You should probably add an explanation of the controls to the description of your game.

I'd really appreciate it if you would have a look at my game as well, and be sure to download the smaller version :D

Thanks for playing! There wasn't an actual rewind mechanic, instead he walk backwards through the levels I'll add an update with many fixes such as an explanation.

Ah, I see I read the description wrong :)

Nice game, I liked the particle effects

Thanks! Had a lot of fun!

Nice game, and congrats on your first game jam (my first as well).   I enjoyed how you can stand on top of enemies (it led to some interesting moments with stacking the enemies on top of each other as platforms).  I think if you zoomed the camera out a bit more so you can see more of the level it would make a lot of the gameplay much smoother.

Submitted

I liked the look but I wish the camera was a biiit more zoomed out.  Overall, platforming around was still a lot of fun and I  enjoyed trying to stack as many bread people together as  I could to stand upon a tower of plenty.

Fun shooter, loved the characters eyes when he jumped lol. could have been a little less floaty.

Nice game. I didn't really see the rewind part, but other than that, it's good!

Developer

Thanks for playing it! I'm 12 and go to high school so I was on an even more limited timer so I couldn't add any explanation. The way it works with the theme is that Joel dropped his sandwich and has to rewind time (Walk backwards through levels) to get the ingredients for his sandwich.

cute little game ^^

Thanks

Cool game! Very good graphics!

good game, good pixel art, funny concept. If the camera was zoomed out it would have been really convenient for the player

The funniest I've played so far hahaha I have a friend named Joel, I'll tell him to play too! Congratulations on the work!

First of all good job and congrats for you first game jam! Here some things I would change that should not require a lot of time and could improve the game:

- Increase falling speed of the character

- Add some background music

- Zoom out camera

- Keep shooting if you have the key pressed.

The art of the characters was fun!

Developer

Thanks for the reply I've been working on some stuff in the editor and hopefully there will be an update some time soon

Great game! Love the art, only feedback I would give is it would have been better to have a more zoomed out camera, other than that good job!

Developer

I know that was one oft the things I didn't like about it. I couldn't figure out how with a cinemachine camera though. Thanks for playing!

Is it ketchup in the toast?

Submitted

good btw : )

Developer (1 edit)

sure... it's ketchup

A fun and cute game! Pretty rage-inducing, but in the good way. The feedback I have is mostly that it would have been good with a more zoomed out camera, or that the player is in the middle or at the back of the view, not the front. Anyway, good work on your first jam! Here is my game if you want to try it: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/723902
