How does you game fit the theme?
The rules of the game are changing with each level - meaning the mechanics/rules are not real.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, I made everything my self (code, art, design) except the sound effects (excluding music). A team of 1 :)

Great game. I struggled as you saw on stream but I was able to complete it. The game design was well done. Just the right amount of difficulty without it being impossible.

You know there's bugs with jumping, so I won't mention it :)

I would suggest an interesting mechanic for another iteration of this. Give your enemies a cone of sight. It would add another stealth element.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing it, it was a lot of fun to watch! Also, always fun to join your stream!

Agreed as we've discussed :) Thanks again!

A very nice Game and fun to play,  a really cool mechanic and a very interesting way to implement the theme.

Developer

Thank you very much, I'm happy you had fun playing it! :)

Hey there! The gameplay was really nice, though i had some trouble with jumping.

As a sidenote i kinda felt like the gun should've been part of the level, (like you have 3 shots to clear the guards) instead of a cheat that negates your final score

Either way, you've made a solid game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing! :)
Yeah, the jumping bug remained in a small portion of the game - ran out of time sadly.

Good feedback for the gun and I agree. Some of my play testers were struggling with figuring out the levels, that's why I added a gun, to help players who don't have time/patience to try and finish without it. Every level can be passed without a gun, and then that's sort of a flex :D

The jump should be higher, but other than that the graphics and sounds were good, and it was a fun puzzle/stealth game!

Developer

Thank you very much for the feedback and I'm really happy you had fun playing the game!

Fun stuff, i like the problems you get into and the things you have to do but i feel like the jump could've been a little higher. Nothing else much, good job.

I'd also appreciate if you could play and rate my game too. Thanks :)

Developer

Thanks so much. I calculated the jump to be part of problem solving with the boxes and such. But I'll take a look at it, thanks for the feedback!

I Love the arcade/puzzle feel and interesting rules (the ammo limit!!).  If you plan on continuing it, it's not far from becoming a very solid, addictive game in my opinion!

Developer

Ohh that's so nice to hear. I'm super happy you enjoyed it, means a lot coming from you, who made such an amazing game!

Wow I can tell you put a lot of work into this! I thought the UI was really well done, I liked the reactive UI elements (button animations, sounds etc. The layout was very clear and easy to follow). I appreciated that when I lost a level, you put little notes regarding how to improve which was really helpful (ex. avoid lights, destroy bullets with your own). The stats at the end of each level were nice to see regarding progress/score. I unfortunately got stuck at level 2 a couple of times(I'm not sure why but sometimes the jump stopped working for me and I couldn't make it to the exit). Overall though I thought it was well put together, great work :)

Developer

Thank you very much for the very detailed feedback I appreciate that a lot! And I'm super happy you enjoyed the game! I'm aware of the jump bug, I managed to fix it for 90% of the problematic areas, to completely get rid of it I'd have to redo the levels but unfortunately ran out of time.
Thanks again and I still remember your game it was a lot of fun but I was also angry at my self a lot of the time haha :D

Good jobs on the graphics and the sounds. I like minimalist pixel art and you done it quite well :)

Developer

I loved the way you implemented the theme

For some reason I couldn't see the full screen on a single monitor, but other than that I had a great time

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for playing it and reviewing. Sorry about the technical difficulties, hope you were still able to enjoy the game!

I like the graphics and the audio. looks and feels nice. The game design ideas are nice.

Some things would need a bit of polish in my opinion: In level 1 I was spotted through the wall; Sometimes the jump did not work. don't know excactly why.

Sadly I could not figure out how to get to the exit in level 2 but would have liked to try level 3. Maybe unlock all levels for a jam.

Congrats on your game and good luck!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for the review and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The spotting through the wall was done on purpose, since level 1 doesn't really have a lot of challenges (but I also wanted it to be easier)
Level 2 and 3 is when the puzzle component really kicks in,  so you need a couple of playthroughs to figure out the puzzle,

The jumping but has been in the game for a long time. I've fixed 90% of the problematic areas, I'm sad to hear it's still there. Usually it helps to walk on a different platform then returning.

Definitely good point for all levels to be unlocked for a game jam!

Thanks again :)

I couldn't play the game on my 5:4 ratio monitor sadly. The edges won't be visible on screen.
*WebGL build is playable in smaller size, so it works, but I don't want to rate the game based on this. I'm so sorry bucky! :/

Developer(+1)

Don't worry about it Tronimal, you've helped me enough. Scoring is secondary to me, had a fun time making the game and meeting new people along the way! Hopefully it was playable enough in the WebGL version for you that you could enjoy it at least a bit :)

Submitted

I didn't play it very long,  because I was livestreaming voting and cc and wanted to move on.
I will look back into it for sure, maybe offstream though. :)

Bugs!

When i try to open a level game crashes and opens again!.      my specs are "High End"

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hmm, that's weird, I had quite a few people test it and it worked everywhere.

If you'd still like to try the game I've managed to do  a working browser build: https://buckyside.itch.io/lights-path-webgl

Would you be wiling to provide me with a video recording of the event so that I can try to figure out what went wrong?
Thanks for the report though!
