Artistic Statement / Use of Theme(s)
Climate Cleaner showcases the elements of climate change and tackling climate change in a arcade-style manner. Inspired by works like Brotato and After Us, with themes of combatting climate change by restoring ecosystems.
Development Summary
Our development cycle has been loaded with ups and downs. Firest beginning as a unkown project with a theme of combating climate change, we went from a mystery, to light horror, to an arcade horde fighter. We lost team members, gained team members, and issues with timing, personal matters and issues with hardware set us back when we didn't have time. We had to cut major points of the story for the sake of time, but with what we had we were able to change it to a story about fighting direct causes of climate change. With a team of 6 at the end, we managed to pull through with a central idea that you see now.
Release Plan
We do plan to continue working on the project, by adding in the scrapped elements of the story and bug fixing. We plan on waiting until much after the submission, to give everyone a moment to rest from the project, and as some of us need to get back to our universities.

love the art and background story! there's a slight jittering for character movement but overall it's very well executed, good job!
I was surprised by the amount of content you were able to achieve in the space of the jam, great work! The visual design is cohesive and fun, the arcade style and simple "mouse over to kill" mechanic worked well, the power-ups from killing enemies is a nice addition, and I do really like the implementation of the map as something you're visually progressing along between each level. I agree with William that it'd benefit hugely from more variation, as currently it feels like there's far too many levels that are more of the same, but given what is present in this version it's understandable. If you do keep tinkering at it, I'd love to see the things like: new weapons to unlock as you go; more enemy types introduced at a quicker pace; more variations in level design, maybe including tiles with certain effects; maybe the maps could be slightly larger and the spawn points could be the size of the largest thing they spawn (I accidentally kicked ghosts in the face a lot as I ran above them).
A really fun and different take on the climate crisis, and the art style was very enjoyable. Suggestions include adding some sort of sound design, making the game a little shorter, and maybe adding a "shooting" mechanic instead of only using your mouse, as I found that it got a little repetitive after a while.
I managed to make it to the end of the game, and I had an overall good time. There was a decent amount of strategy in the game and the enemies were interesting in combination with one another. However, the game was far too long to make up for its lack of enemy variety. By the time the ranged enemy was introduced, I imagine most players were already tuned out. I would recommend making it much shorter or introduce more new mechanics and enemies to keep the game interesting.
Amazing game! Mechanics, levels, design, and story are all top-notch! Only thing I would add is some sort of visual indicator for the cleaning machine that connects to the mouse, but other than that, the game was great!
