Running into problems with the 3rd Party Templates.

I have downloaded the 3rd party templates and am trying to get them to work. I have all the fonts, but I am still getting issues. Specifically with the arcing letters and the frame in the pamphlet since it asked for Character Sheet Arches instead of 3rd party Arch.

Also, is there a list of the fonts needed and advice on where to get them?

Hey! I also ran into this problem. If you open a template without installing any of the fonts you should get a pop-up in Publisher about missing fonts, which should lead you to the following messages in the font manager.

The missing fonts are ITC Serif Gothic, AndroclesOpti-Heave and Futura PT. You can fix this as follows.

  1. AndroclesOpti-Heavy is included in the zipfile of the templates in its own separate folder. Just install the font inside that folder.
  2. ITC Serif Gothic is a font that is free for commercial use and can be downloaded from various places, such as https://www.freefonts.io/itc-serif-gothic-font/.
  3. Futura PT can be downloaded as well, but looking into it while writing this response, it seems to be free for personal use only.  https://www.dafontfree.io/futura-pt-font/

I'm guessing the absence of the latter two fonts went under watt's radar because these were already installed on their machine. I'll check in with watt.

Hey all!

I did not mean to include ITC Serif Gothic and Futura PT (the fonts I use in my CE materials because they require an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription to download. The template fonts are AndroclesOpti-Heavy for headers/subheaders and Arial 9pt for body.  I  cleaned up the styles in the Affinity Publisher documents and added the missing pamphlet arch!

The new template zip folder is dated 12.29.24.

Hope this helps and let me know if you run into any additional issues.

Is it possible to include InDesign equivalents for the AFPUB files? I currently use InDesign for my layout and want to at least create something in the spirit of the CE layout. If not, I can work with what is there, but I would ideally like the option of the game jam layouts as a starting point

The game jam templates files were designed in Affinity Publisher. My understanding with Affinity to InDesign is that Affinity can open Adobe files, but not the other way around. All this to say, I do not have any InDesign files.

Thank you Watt!
I found a workaround so all is well. Thanks so much for the reply

Is anyone else running into the issue of the template crashing every time you make an edit? For context, I am on an iPad Air M2. I’ve only done a little bit of the formatting so far, and originally everything was fine. But as of today, any time I try to edit the template at all, I can save the changes, but then if I try to go back to my projects, the program crashes. When I open it back up, it appears as though the changes have been saved, but then when I open the file, they have not.

Feeling a little bit worried because I’m excited for my project and I have a lot to do, but I don’t want this to be a fatal roadblock. I’ve redownloaded the template, and started over, and it’s working for now…

Also, is there any way to get rid of the “missing resources” popup every time I open the template?

Have you tried opening, editing, and saving another file in Affinity?  It sounds like you might be having issues with your Affinity installation (I’ve read some recommendations to reinstall affinity from their website using the .exe extension but have not experienced this issue myself.

For missing files, you’ll want to move everything to the same folder (before opening Publisher), open the template, open Resource Manager in the windows drop down, and then update or replace the assets using the new file location (the folder where you moved the assets using).

If you can open and work with other Affinity Publisher docs, you could always copy and paste template content over and save there.

hope this helps!

Thanks so much for your response, Watt. I’ve tried all of the advice I’ve found, but so far the only thing that’s working is your copy and paste advice haha. Here’s hoping I’m able to make it through without it getting corrupted again. I suppose if it does, I can just copy and paste again to extend the timer. Thanks again!
