Question about combat

Hi, i wanted to make a little more peaceful game but i was this "The game must have combat or a similar mechanic for determining outcome of certain situations, enemy encounters and events." requirement. I wanted to make a game about a salesman/trader wandering around towns and making money to live from day to day, could i just add some random event that from time to time you could get attacked by a thieves and lose some money/stamina? Or should there be some combat mechanic where you will fight with those thieves and maybe some wild animals too?

I think you could do without combat entirely if you made some sort of a game around the trading. My understanding is that, as long as there is a way to succeed and a way to fail at objectives within the game, it has a "mechanic for determining outcome of certain situations". Combat is just a convenient example of base-line conflict resolution. I'm not the judge but that is my interpretation :)

Okay Thanks! :) I think trying to gain enough money for a day to stay alive is good objective, but i could add some more
