Got locked staring at a gate with Enter showing, tried all buttons but with no luck I was stuck.

There would be nice with some gameplay instructions on the itch main page, as long with key bindings instructions.

Combat felt ok and kinda fast and snappy. Movement a bit slow and very small steps. Enemies seems to be able to walk without following the tiles as the player.

Graphics looks great and the intro was well made.

Game really needs skip intro button! And subtitles! I couldn't hear what happened at the end due to noises around me :)

It was really unintuitive to figure out how to pick up things at first, considering that first key we autopicked after the battle. Took me a long while until I was able to get that second key... then I got another one and went to open the wrong gate - the one leading outside of the level, which blocked me from progressing further. But I saw bunch of gates etc just standing outside - guess they were some testing gates ;)

People already mentioned small steps and freezing bug after you press F with no target. First time It happened that ghost near the enterance was just moving all the time and he moved right at the moment of me pressing F.

There is something wrong with their possitions on tiles it feels like. They like a halfstep to the left or right sometimes and that prompts them to move away to reposition, I think.

Battle with last ghost was a bit tedious. There was nothing new or cool, he just had a lot of hp. Its was attack-parry-attack-parry all the way. Took a while...

But you made several mechanics that sound cool. They just wasn't too much used due to it being hard to balance it all during the jam time. There is a torch that goes off and you need to pick new ones. There is a Faith and Despair mechanics and Faith used to heal (though there are potions too). Parry mechanic was quite easy to use and it had weight to it. Everything is in there, maybe some bugs and polish left for it to be amazing!

Nice entry!

I touched the Grall and "realised how foolish I had been all the time."

Getting stuck in the door of the house of the village gave me a bad first impression of the game but in the end it's a fun one.

It looks and sounds good. I like the torch slowly extinguishing and the lighting is very good. The game controls alright and the combat system works, also I had just enough life to defeat Arthur while I took care of finishing off all the enemies with the action which grants you faith, so the game is not too easy and I like that. Finally the best part of the game was one I almost missed and were the items which were placed so you should be able to notice them but not highlighted at all and completely integrated into the environment. That's super organic and cool, I loved that, before finding the first key I was just wondering if there was more game than what I had seen and almost quit then I realised I could use free look and take potions, keys and torches.

You're really feeling like you're a knight wearing a full plate armor and dealing heavy hits with your sword, you really nailed it, congratulations. Yet if it's a blessing I think it's also equally a curse as the slow movement and combat are a bit unexciting as a result.

I think the steps are unusually small, they could probably be bigger.

That's a cool game, thanks for sharing.

Nice concept of a game, I'm a sucker for retold Camelot stories. The visuals are good, the faith/despair mechanic is very interesting, but the game just has a lot of bugs, sadly. It's hard to get into combat sometimes if the enemies are wandering and aren't perfectly aligned with the tile, I managed to lock myself even during combat while pressing F.

Fixing those bugs and increasing step size a bit and you will have a pretty decent experience.

Unskippable exposition dump is unskippable and an exposition dump!

I walked up to a door.

I pressed the F key.

Then I could not longer control anything.

Very pretty, tho.

I really enjoyed this one! It was fun and did not overstay its welcome. I would have loved to see combat be a little more interesting but it seemed to be a bit bugged. I did like that it wasn’t generic combat.

Great work!

The art is pretty good, and the combat system is decent - the healing mechanic is interesting, even if it did kinda just end up being "hit this button when enemy is 1 hit away from death to recharge the healing meter." The movement didn't feel quite right - the tail end of each step seemed to last longer than the actual movement animation, so it felt like inputs were just getting eaten. Overall, a pretty solid entry.

I personally ran into a lot of crashes partway through the second level, although I'm not entirely sure if it was your game or if my PC just decided to become unstable (I got a BSoD as well).

In any case, here's my playthrough of what I could play through:

Believe I made it quite far into the second level before I also got locked out. I was very careful to ensure I never used the special attack without an enemy infront of me, and I avoided the bugged door at the beginning of the second level.

However much further into that level (I had probably got through 3-4 doors or so (not quite sure as I wasn't counting) when I was able to use a key to open a door that took me off the map. I'm not sure if this is the same bug as point 2 in your comment. however I couldn't progress any further, I'm assuming because I no longer had a key.

I was quite determined to finish to at least give you a decent appraisal but I then bugged into a wall and got stuck. I tried to reload but the load game button didn't do anything for me.

Really sorry I can't give you more regarding the complete game, but I will try and give you some constructive feedback anyway from what I saw.

I think the filesize is probably quite a big problem. Unreal definitely makes big files, but this is probably just too big for alot of people to want to download for a short game. Not sure whether you could have scaled the textures back or used lower LoDs.

The styling is of course absolutely gorgeous, I would have loved a little more information on the main game page about the assets you used and which were from you. I can see that the environments and levels are Unreal, and its your own voice acting, but I wasn't sure about the rest.

The ideas behind the combat is a great idea, I like the thought having to charge a meter to heal myself instead of just looting stuff. The actual combat itself rewarded spam clicking so could use some tuning.

Overall it was really smooth sailing and fun for me until I hit the bugs, these things happen sadly, but I do hope you have another go for the next jam.

Thank you for the feeback,  I was the artist for the project and most of the assets come from the Quixel Bridge library. This help me to create faster envrionement in a short period of time.

Sorry, that you got some bugs in there, as the graphics and sound are quite nice, as an Unreal engine should be. Maybe you should increase the step size a bit, as the movement was a bit slow for my liking.

Developer

To all and every future testers, two bugs have made their way to the game :

  1. Using the special attack (F key) without having an enemy in front of you will disable all player inputs.
  2. In the second level, opening the door you came from at the very beginning with a key will lock you out of the level.

Both bugs can be resolved by quitting to the main menu and loading your saved game !
Thank you for your understanding, and hope you enjoy the game nonetheless !

I feel the same way. It looks great, and I appreciate the effort that went into voicing the intro. However, I couldn't get the combat to work. It seems like every time I engaged the first enemy, it disabled all of my controls.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words despite the bugs ! Unfortunately, one last-minute bug indeed made its way to the final build, I'll comment instructions on how to avoid it !

Interesting game. It's clear that a lot of effort was put into the enviroment and the assets, which gives it a high quality feel graphically wise. However combat feels kinda wonky.

Thank you for the feedback! I was the artist for this project. With the feedback of my colleagues, I am happy with the result of the environment.
