Little Reaper

Decided to make a game about a little reaper collecting souls. Here's the art I've made so far, which took about 3 hours.

Little Reaper Animations

Going from left to right, top to bottom, there's the walking animations for the Little Reaper with no mask, with a mask, and with a scythe.
Below that, there's his death animation, losing the mask, and losing the scythe. The mask and scythe will be like power-ups (equivalent of mushroom and fire flower respectively, though not ranged). Finally, below those are the animation for the scythe slash, and the souls you'll be collecting along with it's collection animation.

wow, that's great. I love the neon green tones. He is so charismatic and with a lot of personality. It is clear and simple to understand at a glance and I like that. keep it up.

Thank you! I'll definitely keep it up!

Had a nightmarish time trying to get certain things to work in Godot, but finally figured it out and have bare-bones playable game. I unfortunately needed to scrap half of the slashing animation, as it was taking too long to be comfortable to use. The timing on a jumping slash was impossible with the long wind-up, but only learned that through play-testing, haha.

Also, excitingly, I got assistance from a musician who made some awesome background music for the game! I'll have a more visual update after I implement a few more features and get a decent map made to show it all off in.

Unfortunately it looks like I won't be able to finish anything playable in time. I ran into problems with the engine and this was compounded by loss of internet due to a storm, so I couldn't look things up. I'll keep working on it regardless and you can follow the progress on my itch.io page or my twitter.

I'm disappointed I couldn't get it done in time, but it was still a great learning experience.

Managed to get something playable just seconds after the deadline, haha. Oh well, here's a screenshot.

I'll follow you to see the little reaper when it's finished.

The important thing about jams is to encourage you to design and program things and I see that it has achieved that in you. Good luck in your project.

Thank you! I'm definitely going to see it through until I've got a finished game. I think it will be great for developing my skills, and the Game Boy-like theme will keep the scope nice and small.

ohhh... that's a shame man! hopefully you can still publish this someday soon, it looks promising! keep it up!

Thanks! I'll keep at it until it's complete!
