Heya! I played this game on stream today and it was fun but confusing! I tried playing it before reading too much about it, and there were a few things not clear right off the bat; that you were defending a Dev Studio and the creeps were bugs. I feel like there is room to expand regarding explaining the controls in-game and the basis of the story. Regardless, I still managed to figure out what to do and how things worked and it was fun learning all the different abilities things had and watching the abilities at work against the creeps. Not sure if it was on my end,  but there seemed to be no sound of music though and I was a bit sad about that.

Here is the link to highlight of me playing the game https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1854800477

VOD:

Overall Fun:

The tower defense concept is brilliant. Devstudio protecting itself from UI bugs and visual bugs by adding modules and extra features is a great idea. However, implementation needs a lot of work. For Round 1, enemies have too much health, move too fast, or weapons don't deal enough damage from the start. Do enemies ramp up their stats every round or do all enemies have the same health throughout the entire game? I want more from this game and it feels like it's early in development so I'm cutting some slack on it.

Controls/UI:

On PC, controls are straightforward, but I would like to see a tutorial or keybind layout in a settings menu. You need tooltips that further explain things. Every 10 kills increases modules by 1% but does that mean it increases weapon damage, weapon range, cooldown, or does it just mean the module that boosts range by 20%?

Art:

Enemies, animation, and visual effects are pixelated and stylized. I like the animations and enemy deletion the most. I would like to see more art in terms of the grid/hex and the area surrounding it.

Sound/Music:

No music or audio. Suggest adding audio to every object that shows a visual change. Weapon attacks, enemy death animations, etc.

I was really lost at first... Didn't know what to do, and the game gives very little in terms of hints. I very slowly began to understand how things go, I eventually did little by little, but I still struggled quite a bit. It's also because I'm not too used to this kind of games. A bit more of a tutorial or hints given to the player would help getting the hang of the game, so that the fun can start!

Controls are very easy to get and responsive.

Art is nicely done, stylized and simplistic, in a good way!

Hard to rate sound as there isn't much in the game.

Keep up the great work!

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback and highlighting your initial confusion. We apologize for the lack of clarity and hints in the game. We understand that providing a more comprehensive tutorial or additional hints would greatly assist players in understanding the mechanics and enjoying the game from the start. We appreciate your suggestion and will work on improving the onboarding experience to ensure that players can quickly get the hang of the game and dive into the fun.

We're glad to hear that you found the controls easy to use and responsive. It's also wonderful to know that you appreciated the stylized and simplistic art direction of the game.

Regarding sound, we acknowledge that there isn't much in the game currently. We're actively working on incorporating sound elements to enhance the overall experience and create a more immersive atmosphere.

Thank you for your encouragement and support. We value your feedback as it helps us refine and improve the game. We'll continue working hard to deliver an enjoyable and engaging experience.

Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest Pixel Art! I'm hythrain, the host for this quest and one of the streamers! This review is to let you know I just finished playing your game (this review is being written on stream) and am here to share feedback! If you want the VOD for afterwards, please let me know!

When I first started this up, I looked away from my screen to see chat and then returned to find myself at a selection screen. This left me bewildered for a while. I blame my brain on this. This may have slowed my ability to understand things for a bit.

That said, it did take me a few attempts to figure out how the game was intended to work, and even then it took me even more time to grasp everything.

Once I had, though, I found this game to be very interesting! I do hope you go forward with this! If you do, a tutorial would certainly be recommended. My rating on controls/ui was based primarily on my ability to grasp things easily, but with a tutorial that would've been maxed.

Otherwise, just needs music and sound effects. I provided some free ones in my stream if you would like them. In fact, I'll play them all right now in the stream once I finish typing this sentence. You're free to use them. I guarantee they're royalty free. <3

I played this game on stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1850361813?t=02h22m05s

My first game was really weird, I didn't know what to do, so I just watched the enemies come and destroy me. I was trying to click on stuff, but nothing happened.

After that, I realized I needed to purchase stuff, build them, then start the round. I think a tutorial would be super useful here to teach players how to play the game.

Another suggestion would be to add some gameplay during the rounds. It felt like once a round started, there was really nothing for me to do except watch, and either win and buy more upgrades, or die. Maybe having some abilities like AOE for the player, or getting a tower to fire faster, or something, would be good.

In terms of the UI, there were some hexagonal pieces and square towers. I think the square towers also fill up their hexagon in terms of blocking movement, so maybe instead of having different shapes, use different background colors?

Also, having sound and music should really add to the game ambience and enjoyment.

Overall, I think the concept is interesting, I liked the setting of game dev stuff. There's a lot to improve here, but it's a good kernel!

Developer

Thank you for playing our game and sharing your feedback. We appreciate your insights. Here's our response:

  • We understand the initial confusion and will work on implementing a tutorial for a smoother learning experience.
  • Your suggestion of adding more gameplay elements during rounds is intriguing. We'll explore incorporating player abilities and enhancements.
  • We'll consider using different background colors instead of shapes for better visual clarity.
  • Sound and music are important to us, and we're actively working on implementing them.
  • We're glad you found the concept interesting and appreciate your support in shaping the future of our game.

Thank you for your valuable input in improving Tribute TD.

Hello! I played your game today, and what you have was a lot of fun! My feedback below may sound like I didn't enjoy it, but I see a lot of potential here. I'd play this again after a couple of updates. Here's what I got for you:

=======================

OVERALL FUN:

=======================

Overall... I think you do have a great game here! Only issue... balance. Combat is tough at first, and if players aren't willing to learn... you might have a lot that quit after 1-2 attempts. You should consider making the first couple of rounds easier... draw the player in, then increase the challenge as we go. Remember... if we're playing our first time, those initial rounds are also a tutorial to us.

Couple of things that feel a bit broken...

1) The random weapons and buffs are nice because it changes up runs, but earlier rounds should be guaranteed two offensive weapons, one tower, and only one buff. I started a new run once... and only got the sword as an offensive weapon, two buffs, and one tower. I didn't even survive round 1 because the sword is slow, has a short range, and there are so many enemies.

2) The earlier rounds have way too many enemies. That... or lessen the amount of HP they have. I shouldn't feel stressed or overwhelmed during Round 1 :-)

3) The gun AI had me screaming at my screen several times. They kept attacking enemies further away instead of those closer that posed a bigger threat. Especially since the goal is to survive until time ends... killing enemies closer to your "dev studio" can be the difference between life and death.

However...

I LOVE the creative side of your modules! Defending the game dev studio from viruses/bugs and strengthening it with creative upgrades, mods, and weapons! I really enjoyed reading all the descriptions! This is unique and creative!

So much variety in weapons, upgrades, and towers. I also love how certain towers affect the weapons differently. The one that gives you 50% of your money spent back to anything placed on it, 10 kills per tower increase it 1%. There's some nice strategy here, and you make your players think. I like that!

=======================

CONTROLS/UI:

=======================

Controls are simple and easy to understand (this is good).

The UI looks nice, but the font is pretty small. Not horrible if you play in full screen but many people might have difficulty reading this. I was fine, but you may want to consider enlarging the font for some players.

=======================

ART:

=======================

Not bad. The enemy artwork is nicely done and animated. I love the little flaming balls creatures.

The icons look good, and weapon artwork and animations are done well.

=======================

SOUND/MUSIC:

=======================

There was none. No music on the menu or in-game, and 0 sound effects. Not even ambient sounds. I kept checking if it was muted, and I saw nothing.

My personal opinion... audio in video games is SO important. Music helps set the tone, sound effects help immerse the player into the action, and even ambient sounds will help draw us in further. Perhaps a loud siren/drone that goes off as the round starts for the "impending doom" and SFX as your cannons fire, swords slash, etc. You may be adding this later, though.

Or is there audio and I somehow missed it?

Developer

Thank you so much for playing our game and providing detailed feedback. We appreciate your constructive criticism and are glad to hear that you see potential in our concept. Here's our response to your points:

  1. We understand your concerns about balance, especially in the early stages of the game. We will take your suggestion into consideration and make the first few rounds easier to provide a smoother learning curve for new players.
  2. We apologize for the imbalance in the random weapons and buffs distribution. We'll work on adjusting the system to ensure that players receive a fair and more consistent loadout in the early rounds.
  3. The behavior of the gun AI is something we're actively working on improving. Your feedback about prioritizing closer enemies will be taken into account to enhance the overall gameplay experience.

We're thrilled that you enjoyed the creative aspects of our game, including the modules, upgrades, and variety of weapons. We'll continue to expand on these elements and offer even more strategic options for players.

Regarding controls/UI, we're glad you found them simple and easy to understand. We'll consider enlarging the font to improve readability for players.

We appreciate your positive feedback on the artwork, enemy design, icons, and weapon animations. Your encouragement motivates us to continue delivering high-quality visuals.

We acknowledge your point about the lack of sound and music. Rest assured, we are working on implementing audio elements to enhance immersion and atmosphere in future updates.

Once again, we sincerely thank you for taking the time to play and provide valuable feedback. Your insights help us improve the game and create a better experience for all players.
