I see from other comments that you made this without a game engine. So for that alone - bloody good effort! You are a braver person than I.

The downside of course is that it takes away from the time you had to polish the game and really dig into the theme.

  • Use of Theme - 2
    • I didn't really see the theme in the game. I have marked other games where the only "recovery" is a pickup a 1, but since your pickup "recovers" a time bar I'll give it a 2.
  • Gameplay & Creativity - 2
    • A simple infinite runner with a time-based resources. Works as intended, but needed something more to add some depth and replayability.
    • Crashes every time you die so had to mark it down for that.
  • Art - 3
    • Loved the parallex effect the most, but otherwise nothing stood out
  • Sound - 3
    • The sound design was very well done

PS: For future jams, I recommend uploading as Web Player if able - you will get more reviews and plays - it's quicker to play and you don't have the risk that the application files will trigger virus protection.

Yeah sorry about the crashes, unfortunately I did not finish the game in time, thank you for the feedback and I will be sure to check out yours:).

Nice little game. :-) The graphics are simple, but still good looking. By varying the speed of the clouds and mountains in the background you have achieved a nice effect. What engine did you use to create this game?

Sometimes I got error messages in the middle of the game, unfortunately I couldn't find out what it was related to. After dying/melting I always got this error: Failed to obtain/convert traceback! I'm not sure if it's my laptop or the game.

Still good job!

Thanks ! I used the pygame library in python.

  • Use of Theme - 2
    • I understand what you were going for with the snowball recovery but it kind of feels like a lazy interpretation of the theme.
  • Gameplay - 2
    • The gameplay is pretty simple, it gets boring pretty fast. Everytime you die the game crashes and the obstacle generation is very random often resulting in impossible scenarios where you have to get damaged on purpose. I would start slow and increase the difficulty as the game progressed, not just start strong like that.
  • Creativity - 2
    • The game is pretty simple. I appreciate the diversity of obstacles but that's about it.
  • Art - 3
    • The art is also very simple. The rocks are a bit small which makes it hard to see.
  • Sound - 4
    • The sound design was very well done

All of this said though, i think you made your game without using any engine (Python perhaps?) so i commend you for that. Keep going and improving!

Thanks for the feedback, yeah the game is entirely made in python and I understand how you can end up in impossible situations but that is definitely something that could be hammered out with more polish and skill with the engine (which does have many limitations). Unfortunately I did not have much time to work on it and was very much a side project. I'll be sure to check out your game :)

I really liked how you had to get the snowballs in order to stay cool and not melt. This was a fun twist on this type of game. Great job!

Thanks !
