Oof, that is tough! A good tough though. Very challenging. Nice job!

The game is both incredibly simple and incredibly difficult. The game is very well polished and tuned. There's nothing but jumping here, but jumping is fun. A great example of how to implement movement in a platformer.
Unfortunately, no matter how much I tried, I couldn't get into that narrow passage. Yes, you can joke your dirty jokes, but it's true.
So I do not know how long the game is, but if there is still as much as I have passed, then checkpoints would not hurt.
However, who would say. I also made a difficult platformer and also without checkpoints)))
Hallo,
Thank you for sharing your game. I’ve already saved its RATING;
1. verified: GAME due to reminded of it after reading your review of our team’s submission
2. observed: drawing pixel art technique and your profile image; remembered: playing another game of yours on GAME OFF 2021 (previous year); verified: game to be Diddi and the bugs
3. observed: menu system to remind me of MS-DOS games; adds: “Q” to QUIT GAME appears to have noticeable DELAY in execution;
4. notes: background musical tune to exist as that of retro games, albeit less noticeable than the Graphics and the GAMEPLAY
5. verified: GAMEPLAY to remind me of Duke Nukem#1 2D (PC) via 2D side-scrolling, Megaman x Street Fighter (PC) via execution to almost NOT succeed, Flappy Bird (Mobile) via multiple, correctly TIMED jumps, Super Mario Bros. (Family Computer) via continuous PLAY to cause inadvertent variation in path, whose OUTPUT is surprise, Super Mario Odyssey (Switch) via END appears almost to be reached to cause continuous PLAY
6. observed: self to question while executing continuous PLAY, the objective of this GAME; notes: adding STORY may assist in the ANSWER; keyphrase: Ghosts n’ Goblins#1 (GameBoyColor, PSP), SAVE the WIFE; notes: however, GAME OFF 2022 Neon Square: Resurgence to NOT have such questioning; keyphrase: GAMEPLAY, whose difficulty level appears as challenge that can be overcome
7. finished: GAME to receive YOU WON notification; adds: PLAYED on Web Browser
Thank you. Health
Oh, great! Good to see you won!
About the following issue:
’ “Q” to QUIT GAME appears to have noticeable DELAY in execution; ’
If you used the in-browser edition, it seems to be an issue with Pyxel (the game engine). I’ll be waiting for a fix, you may see it at some point.
Thanks for playing and rating!
What a challenge! I really caught the "just one more time" bug. I could not get past the part right after the typewriters (I think they were typewriters). But great job! Nice old-school music. Good controls.
I think I saw someone else mention it, but I would love some kind of checkpoint/flag or whatnot. Only because it was a little discouraging after making it far(ish) and then getting sent back to the beginning. But then again, I put in a good 30+ runs, so maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it's all about the challenge and stakes.
Either way, great submission!
Thanks for playing and rating!
Talking about the “typewriters”, I think you meant this:
In that case, indeed, it’s probably one of the hardest points in the course (not the hardest, but one of the hardest). Maybe a “checkpoint/flag” would be great there, and that’s totally fair, so I’ll add one after the jam (so stay tuned!) :)
This game is super hard! I died a good amount of time, enough that I looked around on how to remap R to Space!
I wouldn't mind being a bit more forgiven when hitting things by the side. Also not sure if I just didn't went far enough, but some block that could work a save point would be nice!
Lovely intro! Brings me right back to the Atari days!
I love the simplicity of the graphics, the beeps and boops like back in the days for audio, and the very responsive controls.
I felt like the level design was a tad bit on the hard end for the lack of control you have over your character (I'd consider this a precision platformer, which generally feels better if you can go for differentiating jump heights depending on how long you hold the jump button).
Nonetheless, I kept playing cause I do love myself some challenges so I continued to play and I enjoyed myself a good bit!
Thank you for the submission!
In reference to your last year submission, the proceeding was innovative. This game kinda resembles to "Flappy Bird". The level is well-designed and attractive. Controls are responsive. Overall, a great game with a single level.
My suggestion would be to add coins and collectable stuffs to compare scores with friends!
