Very cool! I was able to play with my voice which is already pretty funny! Even funnier is to watch somebody shout "MOOOVE!" "ROTATE!" "DROP!" at his computer :). Thanks for showing this to us instead of making millions!

Developer

Haha no problem, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for playing!

Sorry, I don't have a mic.

Truly the future of gaming. Unfortunately it does not seem to like a kiwi accent so I am constrained by my  slow physical reaction times :)

Developer

Thanks for trying! You're the second person to give feedback that accents aren't being recognized, so I'm gonna see if there's anything I can do to fix that. I'll reply back with an updated build if I find anything within the web speech API docs that might fix it.

Heyyy a fellow New Zealander :)))

Hey @n00begon, I worked on a localization build and am hoping you can give it another go. Try updating the language selection in the lower right corner to see if it recognizes your commands more clearly: https://elocnat.itch.io/tetrivoice-test?secret=qmwfVbCGjqVILrvR2xL6htNZEw  (Make sure to use Chrome!)

If you get a chance to try it, please let me know if it's any better. Thanks!

The voice recognition is just good enough for me to have to actually blame my tetris skills rather than the game. Fun game! :)

Developer

Hey @Silv-R Dev, saw you mentioned above to @n00begon that you were also a native New Zealander . I worked on a localization build and am hoping you can give it another go. Try updating the language selection in the lower right corner to see if it recognizes your commands more clearly: https://elocnat.itch.io/tetrivoice-test?secret=qmwfVbCGjqVILrvR2xL6htNZEw  (Make sure to use Chrome!)

Interestingly enough, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get "rotate" to work, and move seemed slightly less responsive. Drop worked every time. While it's true that I was born in New Zealand and have lived here my whole life I've noticed I pronounce my words with much less of an accent so I may not be the best test subject.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for the feedback, very helpful! There's definitely some small bugs with movement but weird rotate wasn't responsive; gonna keep working on the recognition filtering.

I love the concept! It's frustrating and fun at the same time :)

Developer

Glad you liked it, thanks for playing!

Interesting idea, but apparently it doesn't work with my voice :)

Couldn't move a piece

Developer

Sorry to hear that Vladimir, but thanks for trying! Are you using Chrome? Other browsers may appear to work but are not accepting continuous input (Firefox seems to have that issue) -- you can check if it is recognizing your words in the browser console.

I have not tested it with anything other than my voice (English - American male) and microphones so it is possible that poor quality mics and/or other accents have a side effect on the speech recognition that I didn't encounter.

I tried it on Chrome, Macbook Pro. Maybe it's because of my russian accent :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. It appears there are localization options for the Web Speech API - if I have the extra time I will try playing around and adding some basic localization because the words should be simple enough (move, rotate, drop, etc.) to translate.

I think, i'l try it later one more time, will try to make american accent

Developer(+1)

Sounds good, that will be very helpful feedback. Let me know how it goes!

Hey @Vladimir Ivanov, I worked on a localization build and am hoping you can give it another go. Wow!   I'm impressed with how many dialects and languages you added. Firstly, I tried russian, and it actually worked, I  managed to move, rotate  and drop pieces. Then I tried south african and british accent, and it worked too, although not  as good as with russian.

However, it seems that  there is a bug, when a new figure appears, it sometimes can  take  the same action as it was with the last figure   For example,  i said 'DROP' and  a figure drops, but when a new one appears, it drops too

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Glad to hear the Russian selection worked considering I just used Google Translate for these! Funnily enough I only tried Spanish/French so I'll have to go test the other English dialects.

Yeah currently the movement/stream of commands doesn't reset when a new block spawns. I'll be working on the command cleanup after a piece lands.

Thanks for your feedback Vladimir, super helpful!

Except for the part where I was screaming at my monitor this was a great game.

Developer

Haha! That's the kind of reaction I was hoping for -- would love to see some people play this on video.

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it!

Can't run the game in itch.io - App on Windows :(

Developer(+1)

Sorry to hear that! My guess is that they are not running games inside of a local Chrome browser; I'll download the itch.io App later today and try to see if I can figure it out. Thanks for trying and I'll reply back with a fix if I find one.
