Hi, we uploaded our game to itch.io, but are adding the source code, assets, etc. as a downloadable file on the main page as a .zip file. Is that the correct way to do it? Will we be penalized or banned if we can't find a solution at the end of the jam?

As long as your source code is somewhere in your submission, you are fine. If it is not, I will have already commented on your submission saying you need to upload source. You can reply to my comment and keep me updated. If I don't see any intention to upload source or any sort of communication within 48 hours of my comment, I will remove the submission.
