Dialogue System for Unity: Paid Asset, or Paid Tool?

First-time game jam participant (and gamedev in general) here! Just wanted to ask for clarification regarding the “paid assets not allowed” vs. “paid tools are allowed” distinction.

I was thinking of using The Dialogue System for Unity paid asset since I love how it works compared to making a dialog system from scratch… but assumed since it was a paid “asset” on the Unity store I couldn’t use it. But when I checked the rules I saw that “paid tools” were allowed. My assumption is that paid tools refers to stuff outside Unity for creating assets (adobe creative suite, aseprite, FL Studio, etc).

Just in case, I wanted to ask if the Dialogue System for Unity would count as a paid tool or not in this instance! I assume it’s not allowed but I’d rather ask before making dialog implementation harder for myself!

Thanks in advance :)

The "asset" is in the Tools category if you check the link. So it is ok to use. Tools are normally not assets but often put together with the other stuff for convenience

Thank you very much! I appreciate the clarification :)

Hey it´s a bit late now but... where is that list of allowed tools? I could not find it anywhere.

I think he's talking if you go to the Unity Asset Store and click the Tools category and those are okay.
