- Great artwork, rich selection of items and a good variety of mechanics. Sadly the core gameplay is quite tedious due to the size and linearity of the dungeons as well as the high encounter rate. Save-scumming felt required because sometimes an enemy would get a lucky crit and there simply weren't enough resources to make it to the end of the level. Sound effects would've been nice but I liked the music!
- Good entry! The biggest problem with the game is that it is very easy to get lost in the dungeons due to their spaguetti layout (long and thin vertical corridors) and all tiles being of similar colors. If dungeons were smaller and their layout more varied (like in the main screenshot of your itch page), the game would be much more fun. A small ingame tutorial would help too.
- Good work here overall! I like the concept of generated mazes, but some of the mazes that I encountered when playing were a bit overly simple. Improve the maze generation and you have a good game here!
- The music is very repetitive, and it doesn’t change when you enter battles. The map is hard to understand, it needs clearer graphics.
Jam ROM submission
Ok - understood! I attached the GBA ROM file as "MYGAMENAME_jam.gba".

You've done a great job implementing all the RPG staples here - being able to choose and build your character stats is really nice. The level progression feels quite satisfying too. But what really lets it down is the level design - I know the maze is randomly generated but I played twice and each time it was just a series of very long vertical strips with very few connecting paths between them, so I had to spend ages finding my way through. I searched for what felt like quite a while and never found any exit to the maze. I would have happily played longer if the maze was much shorter or if it was more deliberately designed to be more enjoyable to explore. If you do work on this further, I think you can have a really solid RPG on your hands :)
Thanks for the feedback. As a hint for anyone else who has trouble finding the exit: Each maze is a big square (126x126 blocks), the starting location is always in the upper left corner, and the staircase is always near the bottom right corner. (If you're all the way in the corner and can't see it, you probably need to go up a little bit.)
The "observe" option seems really useless.
