My submission for GB Jam 12, a chill game that's exactly like it sounds.

How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
It's a Halloween themed Trick or Treat simulator, if that's not SPOOKY I don't know what it. Oh there's a ghost and a bat and a skeleton in there too.

I found the game's art very beautiful and charismatic. I also thought it was nice of you to choose the costume right at the start. I'm a greedy glutton

I encountered a softlock right at the beginning, but as you mentioned in the game description, it's part of the jam, and the way is to fix it later.

The game is really cool and has a lot of potential, congratulations! I would just make the character faster in the city.

Cool game, great tunes. The guy moved at the speed of smell though...

Developer

thanks, unfortunately being unable to fix the player speed before deadline seems to be bumming us all out.

I loved being a kid (or a bat) again and trick-or-treating and the interactions with the different houses was so wholesome. I had some really slow movement in after leaving my house but it happened in my game too so I guess we're kind of pushing the limits of the medium lol, full of candy without endangering my health, yum!

The music is great! Unfortunately, there's not much I can say about the rest of the game... The walking is so slow (and i got softlocked a couple of times) that I gave up on trying to get to the credits. It's a shame, because this looks like a fun game. (also, I colected $CandyTot candies...)

Developer

if you ever care to give it another play you can always end the game early by going back home, if you don’t get softlocked…

What a goofy and fun little game! I had trouble with the movement: my character walked slowly and seemed to get slower as the game went on. But I love the music and it definitely hit the notes of a classic retro game.

Did you also use GBstudio?? I had trouble with player speed slowing down from day 1 but no amount of toggling update/on init variables seemed to fix it before the deadline. Maybe I just had too much going on in the background.

Thanks for playing
