nope, the character movement is something that went wrong during the final day of the jam that I wasn’t able to get fixed before it was time to submit my entry. I haven’t gone back into GB Studio to fix it in a while cause last time I did I kept running into dead ends.

It seems very graphically ambitious and as a big fan of GB Studio  I always appreciate seeing a game that can actually run on the GB. That being said the hit bpxes need some fixing, I had a heck of a time getting onto the ladders.

would love to see a revised version with some music!!

the controls did not feel good

It seems a bit obtuse, it looks good and sounds fine but I felt like every time I explored I found a dead end or a chase I couldn't keep up with. Which engine did you build this ith?

if you ever care to give it another play you can always end the game early by going back home, if you don’t get softlocked…

thanks, unfortunately being unable to fix the player speed before deadline seems to be bumming us all out.

Did you also use GBstudio?? I had trouble with player speed slowing down from day 1 but no amount of toggling update/on init variables seemed to fix it before the deadline. Maybe I just had too much going on in the background.

Thanks for playing

thanks for the detailed feedback, I probably would make some of the objectives clearer if I did it again. I wanted the player to feel pressured to hurry but also provide a check point of sorts. Sometimes too much dialogue slows a game down but in retrospect I could have used a little more.

As far as the rover I really wanted to expand on that and plan to in a fuller version of this game. I was stoked with the different sprites I came up with but I really want to add more action to the movement.

As weird as it is Bayou Billy is always an inspiration for me when it comes to retro game dev. as a kid I loved how it had racing and beat ‘em up levels so I wanted to bring a little of that to this game.

Thanks again!

This was a lot of fun but I don't want to shoot the garlic guys.

I want to be friends with the garlic guys.

Reminded me more of Celeste than GameBoy but it was a super fun play-through. The new obstacles and items ramped up very nicely.

You’re not the first one to mention the speed, I might have let that one get away from me a little.

There is an air gauge in the pause menu (press start) and if you click on the icon it will display how much remains.

Thanks for playing!!

this might be more of a discord thing but as someone who published a GB ROM and doesn’t have the capability to put it on a physical cart, if anyone can get some photos of any of the jam entries playing on an actual Gameboy I’d love to see them.

quick update: I am currently making tweaks and cleaning up LASTRONAUT, I really appreciate all the feedback I’ve received during this game jam and I’m looking forward to uploading a more refined version in a few weeks. Also without the pressure of a deadline I’ll make sure it’s playable in browser next time X)

I wanted the movement to feel heavy, so that anxiety wasn’t entirely unintended but believe me while I was playtesting I kept that variable at double speed. Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback.

This was super fun, the gameplay felt classic and I really liked all the little decisions that gave it a sense of player autonomy that SHMUPS usually don't.

Oh and that boss fight song had me going!

Thank you, I was really excited with some of the Sprites and Tile Sets I got done during the jam.

Thanks!

One of the Characters is supposed to replenish your air supply and it sounds like you were almost there…

If you’re up for another play through try taking the most direct route and don’t double back unless you have to.

Every time my tether broke and I died I didn't even hesitate to retry the level, addicting gameplay, nice graphics and the music was nice too!

Cool concept, great graphics. The control scheme was really the only thing that made it feel less "GameBoy"

I really enjoyed this one,  I would definitely play an extended version of this that went to different planets.

Great ending too, very satisfying.

I liked the graphics overall, lots of unique design.

The player sprite is cool and a smoother walk animation would really make it stand out.

This is my game Lastronaut,

It's my first game jam and I'd love to get some feedback.

I really enjoyed the music, it would have been nice to see more original assets and less default GBStudio resources.

Loved the graphic and the travel animations, also you're YouTube channel has helped me a ton in using GB Studio so thanks for that!

This is fantastic, I didn't beat any of the levels on the first try and it initially felt a little frustrating but then it became addicting. All the levels felt winnable and I knew I just needed one more try if I could get it right. I also liked the incremental difficulty progression with the addition of the corn etc. Great work, I'll definitely be playing this one again.

this is an excellent take on the “Art Cart” genre. Great use of a robust tile set with some clever restrictions to make it run on GB. I had a great time playing this one.
