Love the sound design and gameboy aesthetics. Looking forward to to seeing some more areas.

The concept is cool,  makes me want to see more, the idea is that each character is a different kind of gameplay? Art has a good personality, the shopkeeper part was a bit too slow on some points but other than that I liked it, good job and good luck for the full version!

NIce concept :).

The atmosphere is very good and attractive.

Developer

Thank you for checking out our game, this is the first pixel art I've worked on and it means a lot :)

I like the atmosphere of this game and the music of shopkeeper part. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Miner and the Woodsman parts going to be like.

Developer

Thank you for playing our game and glad you enjoyed it! We have much more to come for sure! :D Be sure to follow for more updates as they should be fairly soon! :D

Nice start to a fun game! I'm looking forward to updates. Maybe the bartering system could be fleshed out to involve some sort of back-and-forth between the customer and the shopkeeper?

Developer

Appricate you checking out our game! Currently we have only planed having the sliding arrow for the mini game where the darker color is the buyers price (lower) and the lighter color is the shopkeepers price (slightly higher) but what would you have in mind if we added more to it? Def interested for adding future complexity maybe as the game progresses! :D

Submitted

I'm not sure.. I'm imagining several rounds of bartering like in real life, where you need to try to push the customer as low as possible without losing them ( by, eg., losing the sliding bar minigame).

This was a really cute game! I love the art and the townsfolk milling about is a really nice touch. The selling minigame is a fun interlude, as well.

I have a couple questions about how everything works! Is there a 'strategy' that I might not be picking up on? When I first started I thought maybe there would be a buy phase where I would need to restock on "popular" or "well-priced" goods to sell on the next day. Also, as far as I could tell there was no reason not to sell something when being asked if it was available?  I might just be misunderstanding a mechanic at play here.

Overall though, this was a very relaxing experience and I could see this growing into a really nice shopkeep simulator!

Developer

Thanks for taking a look at our game.  So in the demo we gave players a stock of 55 items to start, and every day that passes, the Miner will passively earn items that get added to your inventory.  We plan to implement the Miner as a playable character so you can earn more items than the Miner passively earns herself.  Sometimes the villagers will ask for lots of the same item, and that will cause you to lose all your stock of that item, and your forced to decline the sale and lose that potential money for the day.

Once we get the other characters playable and have our players having a more active role in keeping tabs on their inventory, we hope that it will be much clearer.

Thanks for getting into the details, I think it is a very interesting system that’s being built! I just wasn’t sure whether there was any situation where it made sense for me to decline a sale(maybe due to sell price fluctuations) because I was just selling everything I had as it was asked of me. If I was always supposed to sell as soon as it was asked of me, I wasn’t sure if I was making any sort of meaningful decision or engaging in any sale strategy . Thanks for taking the time to talk about the game!

Right now it is best to try and sell as much as possible when asked by the villagers, although we are planning on having a random hot item of the day which doubles the price of that one item.  Something we were looking into, but didn't make it into the demo.

Developer(+1)

To add to what Tayis said we also plan to have skills which could effect prices aswell as other aspects so maybe you'd  want to save the higher valued items for when you have a certain skill active. Really its to add in a choice to strategize a bit. Fluctiating every price might be a bit to much atleast early game but perhaps later in the game progression there could be a market that changes a bit? Could maybe be a fun little extra mechanic to stratigieze haha

Oh also in this current build there is no chance system in place which is going add a bit of balance aswell. This means every item right now has the same chance of popping up as an item some one wants to buy and also the Miner could get any one of the items as they too have the same chance. In the future we will have all these stats set up so its a bit more of a strategy you'll have to play to make even more coins!

Any chance a Mac or Web port would be possible this week? I want to play!

Developer

We actually did attempt to export an html5 version moments before the jam ended but the sounds were not playing correctly so we decided just submit it as a download.

I think we figure it might be that the sounds were just high of a bit rate and not playing right in the browser so we might have to optimize for that a bit. If we can get it out I will def let you know! I understand it would be nice to have especially because I don't own any Mac devices to export from so my apologies!

Oh it's fine! I should get a Windows device anyway.. It's difficult for me to play a lot of the games in this jam unfortunately.

Developer

Is there any way to emulate windows on a Mac maybe? I mean it sounds like a huge pain to do but maybe it can be done so you can play more of the games! :D

It used to be super easy- I used this app called Wine.

But then I upgraded my OS recently and now I can't use these anymore (something about 32bit being deprecated)!

It's frustrating- I couldn't even use module trackers like OpenMPT or MilkyTracker for this jam.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Ah yeah I thought I had heard about that program! Thats super lame you can't get use it any more D:

A small solution is I can link my playing of the game if you'd like to see it in action, I know this doesn't help get you playing but maybe you'll atleast get to see the moving parts at the very least while I look in to an html version maybe working haha

EDIT: I've added a gameplay video to the full page showing off all the little features currently in this version from yesterday's live stream!

I love the look & feel of the game :) A little in-game tutorial would have been nice but I got quickly into it nonetheless and the bartering mini-game is really fun! You can already see that there's much potential for other gameplay mechanics so I'm eager to see future updates of this game :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, yeah we realized that the objective of the game and the controls were not super clear after trying out some of the other really clearly thought out games, so we are going to work on implementing that to a update in the future.  Thanks for trying our game out :D we do plan on fully fleshing out the game to its full potential.

Looking great, it's really interesting to see how much more is planned for the future. Looking forward to play as the other characters someday. Nice game!

Developer

Thank you very much and thank you for you interest! We really tried to get a solid idea going for this one. For the first time I think we can actually see an idea from start to finish and we will be working on a full release of this game. It will have a lot of fun mechanics for sure!
