The multiplayer rule makes this game jam very small

This game jam is ”Multiplayer” and is not like the #4 and #5, where I participated. I joined it, but multiplayer games often doesn't have anyone in the lobby, so I'm not able to play them, and then I don't vote them.

EDIT: This is not only about empty lobbies, but about small "BIG" game jam too.

Hello romw314, To counter these points, the game jam votes are open to everyone, not just the creators, I mean everyone! We’ll also be communicating on two dates during the voting phase to invite people to play together.

all that means is whoever has the biggest audience is going to win..

I understand your concern. The Judges’ awards are decided by GDevelop Staff to avoid such manipulation. Community voting only affects the top 10 community awards. -M.

Yeah well, considering there's been less than 100 games submitted, and only 400 ratings so far, it's pretty clear to me that this guy was right.

Right, just why it's named "BIG"? It should be GDevelop multiplayer game jam #1. And the GDevelop Big game jam #6 shouldn't have that rule.

Submitted

Exactly!

I didn't submit because of that rule too. Tried to create a game but... the GDevelop multiplayer is unreliable. Sometimes disconnects us and returns to title screen, etc. And THNK is hard to learn. Hope the GDevelop Big game jam #7 will not have any special rules.

Submitted

Agreed bro yeah. As someone who did submit, it hurts that people literally just CAN'T play my game due to the lack of players.

You could be in the lobby of your game for all the voting period you have time, but this would mean that you will not have time to rate another games.

Exactly, yeah

This game jam is small, I think GDevelop is losing their >1100 joined and >600 games on the BIG #5 only because of that rule. And som of them may never return, even if they wanted to submit to this jam.

If the BIG game jam 7 will not be multiplayer, I'll try to make a game and to find yours, cattymations, and then, of course, play it and vote it. Good luck in the next game jam!

Thanks bro! 100% agree. In the last GD jam I came 17th with 33 votes, and right now, with a game of (at least in my opinion) higher quility than that one, I only have 13.

Good luck man and have a fire day.

Just want to tell you GDevelop: you shouldn't mix multiplayer into big game jams, instead create extra game jams for that. If you don't have time for that, team up with someone.

You can run a game in another tab, and use it to simulate multiplayer if nobody is in the lobby. It's not ideal, but it is something. Maybe next time a multiplayer game jam is done, playtesting should be concentrated on the weekends only instead of Wednesday and Saturday, since that is when most people are going to be able to do stuff.

Yeah but, if it's a game you can't play in singleplayer, using another tab to play it in singleplayer is kinda going to ruin the game, no? I mean you're literally playing the game in a different way than what was originally designed to be played.

Submitted(+1)

Yes, but in most cases there are 0 players and there are in game locks preventing games from starting without others. It does allow seeing a little bit of how it's played, but having actual people is preferred to see the whole experience.

Exactly, the problem is that all games had to be multiplayer!

Personally, I've been able to get my friends to play the other games with me, but some people unfortunately aren't.

I think it's a lot lower engagement than past jams right now. Maybe it will be better on the weekend, but we shall see.
