Hey well done on getting this up. I had a little trouble understanding how to play but after I read your instructions more carefully I was all good. The music gave it a cool retro feel, and there was a good variety of enemies. I only managed to get to the third level so I didn't see the shop mechanics. However the enemy respawn mechanic was a good way to give the player another chance to get their health up before proceeding.

Good job!

Congrats on completing your first game. That's a big milestone that a lot of dev's never get to. Anyways I enjoyed this game and had fun. I thought the enemy diversity was really cool and interesting and made for fun things to shoot and dodge. Unfortunately the shop either didn't work for me or I didn't have enough blood to pay and so stuff didn't come up. Also I would have liked to have genre norm controls where space was jump and LMB was shoot. Pretty solid for your first game, nice work!

There is a lot about this game that I enjoyed. I loved the main character and the use of the theme. I was a bit confused about what to do until I saw the directions/controls in the jam submission. I think an in game tutorial would be useful and maybe a ramp up in intensity as you progress through the levels. Like enemy variety could increase as you progress.

I also really liked how the character sticks to the walls and the way you can consume the monsters you've defeated. Overall, great job!

Thank you so much for playing and commenting on my game!

I was indeed considering to include some sort of tutorial, but it got cut off due to time (and maaaybe a little bit of interest). I was also considering ramping up the different enemy times, but ultimately I just wanted to start this first game with a '5 minutes of fun' kinda idea.

The 'sticking' on the wall part was actually a bug, but I liked the way it acted so I left it in. It also seems okay for a bat/vampire to be able to stick to walls.

Really appreciate the feedback!

lol! I love when bugs can turn out to be features :)

Congratulations on your first game!

What I Liked:

I think it was a fun little concept, and I liked the music and art and overall retro aesthetic.

What I Would've Liked to See:

I struggled to get past the second level. I think in part it was confusion about what kind of enemies I could eat vs what types of enemies would hurt me. I think having a few simple, easy levels that introduce the mechanics & enemy types would go a long way towards this (it's a lot to take in at the beginning).

I also think it really would've helped gameplay to have some type of juice when you are damaged (e.g. a little screenshake our sfx or something)

Can't wait to see more from you!

Thank you so much for your (really helpful and insightful) reply!

Your feedback really is a good reminder that things that you design might be perceived differently by your players!
You can for example eat each of the enemies, but only after you defeated them. The snakes herein are sort of an exception as they die on contact without hurting you.

Tutorials and juice (and some sort of boss battle) were in the 'outside of my league - for now' part of this jam, but I'll definitely look into those in upcoming jams. Also I do know that balancing is still pretty off in this game.

Thank you so much for playing and commenting!

Yup, for sure, you run out of time with these jams XD

Great work!
