I tried to use the theme to make a mechanic where there are tradeoffs to the long reach of having a large sword.

Interesting concept, the main problem I see is that I can just remain in the short form since that takes care of all incoming enemies. I can see how that would change if there were blobs that had more health that the short sword couldn't kill by itself. Nicely done.
Yeah, the short sword takes care of most enemies early game (especially if the small blobs don't spawn often). Playing around with the health and damage is a great suggestion. Thanks!
