Its a super neat idea, and quite creepy! It looks super good, you've done a good job with the aesthetics and such. As others have said, I think some ambient noise would have helped, especially to give feedback on where you are. Other then that, it was very well done. Nice job!
A horror game where you use your sense of touch to find the exit and save your life is a neat accomplishment of the jam's theme. We wandered around this genre in our team for a couple of hours but at last, we decided to change it.
Visually is well done (good choice on the color palette), and I liked the introduction animation. Other sound effects and background music will make the experience even better, so keep working on it. ;)
You've already played our game Slow Ride, so thanks for that. ヽ(^◇^*)/
Thanks for checking my game :D Glad you think it fits the jam's theme, the longer I kept working on it, more far fetched the idea seem to be, so by the end I was really in doubt if it would fit or not.
Thank you for your feedback, I'll at least upload a new version after the jam ends with more elaborate sound design ;)
Somehow you managed to make the level completion effect a jumpscare in its own right and I'm not sure how to feel about that.
But more seriously, this game definitely has a neat idea, and it is pretty well executed. While some more ambient sound could be nice, the lack of it definitely does build tension. And seeing the screen start shaking when you have no clear idea where the ghost is is quite nerve-wracking.
The addition of keys to track down in later levels is interesting, but I do wish you had a little more time to see where they were located before the level goes dark. (I didn't end up playing past the first key level, so I dunno if anything more gets added afterwards.)
One thing I feel like it could use is a sense of progression. Without clear visual distinctions or a level counter, it took me a bit to make sure that there were actually distinct levels and I wasn't just mis-remembering layouts.
And lastly, one mechanic that could have been cool to add would be the ability to do a hard knock on a wall, which would reveal a larger area but draw the enemy's attention to that spot.
Overall, this was pretty cool and effective for how simple it is!
Wow, thank you a lot for the amount of constructive feedback!
Sorry for the jumpscare, I just didn't know what to add in the end if you win ahah. The missing sound is my fault, I just didnt allocate some time to find a sound designer when it was perfectly possible to find one. The keys are the last feature. At first, I thought about having different "victims" but due to time I couldn't add that form of progression (just a text appearing saying "victim nº1",etc..). The hard knock is a really cool idea! I might add it. But the ghost is not programmed to find you, just go around. Thank you once again.
The art is really lovely, and the idea is neat! One point that could maybe use improvement is the "touch" mechanic - it felt a bit awkward to directionally control that in addition to moving. Perhaps consider simplifying it to a single key, based on proximity. Overall, nicely done!
I thought about having the touch be only a single button, but then I really liked the idea of the player having to "scan" around him, and press different keys, as to simulate the real "touching everything around me" feel and "touchability", if you know what I mean :P
Thank you for your feedback!
Innovative concept. :) Here are my comments:
The Good:
> I like the idea. It puts a twist to the horror genre and it also touches on a scenario that people commonly experience in life (i.e., moving in the room in the dark)
> The art is so well-done. Good job on that! Not only the story at the beginning but also in game.
Possible points of improvement:
> Maybe adding sounds can help the experience. Not only for the scary effect but also to give player the feedback when he bumps into something.
> The ghost sometimes can be a problem because he lurks around the exit, making it very difficult to walk past it (maybe I missed a mechanic that I'm supposed to do to avoid this?)
Overall, good game! With some tweaks this can be something really exciting!
P.S. I invite you to check out and give feedback to our game! We need more ratings. https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2018/rate/300343
Thanks for your opinion! I'm glad you liked it. I'm sad that I didn't have more time to add sounds, I shouldn't have left that for the end... About the ghost, yeah, I should really tweak him to move around more, it really depends on the layout of the level when it shouldn't. I will check yours ;)
very scary and good executed game i think you put alot amount of effort to get such wonderful result.
you can go check out my entry it will be very nice if you rate it and left a feedback.
AWESOME
LOVE IT
SCARED ME WHEN i CAME TO THE DOOR
sry caps, I am just hyped after playing
Perfect design. Took a little getting used to and helped a ton once i realized I could turn on the lamps. I love the style, I love the ghost. The only criticism I can add is that the intro could use some more sound, possibly some music. Game crashed once but that's to be expected when you only have 48 hours :). I would love to see this game expanded on with more levels and mechanics. Excellent job.
Love the mechanic! The art style is lovely. Keep it up!
One of the best games i've played here so far.
Nice work, keep it up.
This was pretty good.
I've seen a few games go in the completely dark/you can't see you character direction and I think this game is one of the best executed ones. Although not being able to see is always gonna be hard, I never felt lost or as if I was moving randomly or anything.
You also tied the mechanic in well with the theme of horror. I definitely jumped the first time I got caught.
It scared me when I finished the first level, just the dude without being possesed suprised me. It is bold to try to do this kind of mechanic, it's interesting and has potential!
Sorry for scaring you! It was supposed to only happen when you loose, but ran out of time. Thank you for your comment :)
