The sound and visual design is like I've looked in the soul of a Yorkshire Pudding and it stared right back at me. Very chilling, but incredibly satisfying. Really liked the game and the feel of the game.
The one bullet mechanic has been repeated over and over again, but just like with a Yorkshire Pudding, practice makes perfect. All in all, I give it 3.5/5 yorkshire puddings.
I'll yorkshire your pudding bb
really nice style and gameplay. The theme of there only being one bullet doesnt really count, the bullet is just the goal like in any other stealth game. Still a good game tho
Thank you! The stealth part should make the one bullet part feel more important and add tension. If you miss your only shot, you failed.
Solid game! It was really polished all around, and, being more focused on stealth, the one bullet mechanic can add a lot of tension. Very enjoyable, well done!
Thanks a lot!
I played through the whole game, and you've done a nice job here! Here's a more in-depth review:
Design [4/5]: I'm very hesitant to call this a shooter game with only one bullet. It really just feels more like a stealth game to me than a shooter game. Having said that, it's nice that there are two phases to the gameplay. The first phase is complete stealth, the only goal being to get to the gun while avoiding enemies. The second phase is hunting down the enemy. My biggest complaint about the design is that the second phase is completely trivial compared to the first phase. Once you have the gun, it's pretty hard to get caught since you can just shoot the enemy from so far away that it can't even see you. I wish that the gameplay changed in some way once you had the gun. Maybe collecting the gun suddenly wakes up some sleeping enemies? Or maybe collecting the gun changes the layout of the level in some way? Right now, things are so trivial once you have the gun that the gun might as well have just been an exit door to the next level (although that wouldn't have fit the narrative you were going through - but that's basically how the gun functions mechanically at this point). That criticism aside, it's a nice game! The levels are nicely designed. All of them are challenging, but fair. You can always plan ahead and analyze the situation before you have to move into it. The art style clearly communicates what is an enemy and what is part of the level. Nice job!
Adherence to the Theme [4/5]: It is a shooter game with only one bullet, but I think it's more than that. It's really a stealth game. I don't think the stealth aspect fits the theme, though.
Originality [5/5]: Cool idea! I've seen lots of stealth games, but most of them take place in cramped buildings with human guards. This one really makes you feel like you're on the hunt for a creature far more threatening than you are.
Thanks for a big comment!
I actually put the gun quite late into the game and then changed the game around it, tbh it feels pretty out of place. Game started as a one life stealth game with one enemy (that would be stalking you) and that was my take on the theme.
If I would change one thing it's the gun and put a meele weapon in the game instead, so you would have to sneak behind the enemy.
This is a really great analysis of this game. Do you think you could take a look at my game and tell me how you find it? https://mark-auman.itch.io/one-shot-in-the-chamber
Nice Idea, the game was short and simple but fun. I think there is still room for more complex mechanics in game. Also, the art is really good and eerie. Nicely done.
Thank you! Yeh could use some more mechanics.
Originally, I thought this was kind of an overused concept throughout the jam (one bullet), but the light stealth mechanics are a nice way of adding tension. Good work!
Happy to hear that you liked it!
awesome aesthetic, one-bullet was one of the ideas me and my friend were thinking of as well when we were planning. I'm glad I got to see someone do it justice :)
Thank a lot!
Very nice game! I didn't expect the instant death when one of the ... things see you.
It's quite hard sometime to predict the vision area of each one, but I guess that's part of the game...
Fantastic graphics and atmosphere also gameplay. I really enjoyed it.
Your game is really amazing, the atmosphere is great, the GD is awesome. I really wish to see your game in the top 100.
Thank you! We'll see how it goes.
This game is really nice! The sound effects are really good and scary and the gameplay is intense. Really nice work!
Thanks a lot man!
Very well executed game in the "one-bullet" category! It was sometimes unclear why I was spotted by the enemy and sometimes not.. But overall the stealth elements adds nicely and the atmosphere is great! Well done!
Thank you! yeah there could have been better indication why or what saw you.
The monster looking not of this world, the particles in the air that move with you. Gorgeous, just gorgeous.
Thank you Moisty boy!
Dear God it's amazing man. You should definitely expand on it.
P.S I really felt some chills down my spine after hearing some of those sound effects XD.
Thank you! Which sound was it? :D
the sound the monster with all the souls of the village made whenever you shot it.....
Rather chilling.......
Really like the visuals. The black on white, with red dangers makes the game really readable. Plus I like seeing a horror / stealth game which isn't all black and dark. Could do with better indication of the monster vision and maybe a better mechanic for when it spots you, but all in all I really liked this. Good job!
Thank you! yeah that could have been done better.
I wanted to spare that little creature but it was impossible. Maybe she suffers. Thanks for sharing the game!
Thank you! I was actually thinking about making an alternate ending there.
Your game looks great. That's an understatement. It looks fantastic. I wish you would add more levels, some eerie music and a better indication of what monsters see after the jam so I can keep playing it.
Thank you for your kind words! I'll see how it goes I could do some more with tis game after the jam.
Wow. I love stealth games, and this is a great one! Don't have much in the way of critique, even, except that in the first stage with the eye stalk, I always get caught if I try going below it (instead of above), even when it and the monster look the other way.
Thank you!
This game looks is great! Keep up the good work!
I said i was gonna play your game, and golly i was happy when i found out it was this game, which i was meaning to play anyways, ha!
man, this is great. the artstyle is fantastic, the sounds give the perfect atmosphere you need for this and the strange storytelling just makes it more compelling. Also, the creature and the player just look straight out of things i like to draw, hehe
one little sad thing: i don't know why, the game looked like this for me: https://i.imgur.com/fGUgkGr.png
which is really weird. Alt Enter would work, but only for one line of text or one button press, then back to that weird thing. Huh! I hope it's not too bad of a problem, or it's something on my end!
Thanks a lot! Yeah that's my mistake. The game pretty much forces 1920x1080 resolution in each room so if you have a lower res monitor, it will look messed up. It's easy fix.
