This game is actually addicting! My fingers hurt. Super polished, awesome job!

Developer

Owwie! :'( Sorry about your fingers!

I'm happy to hear you had such a fun time, though! ^^ We'll work out ways to make the movement mechanics better on the hands!

Took me too long to find furnace but still liked the game. Good stuff!

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing! :)

That's understandable! The introduction could definitely use some more work to make it a bit more clear.

Submitted(+3)

Incredibly well polished game! I'm surprised how much anyone can do in just 48 hours. It's not far off from being a game I wouldn't mind to pay for.

The only thing I see lacking is the adherence to the theme.

Developer

Thank you for commenting & playing! ^^

This was our first game jam, so we were actually REALLY surprised how far we got with the project!! You're right that our tie into the theme might not be super "out there". For us the main tie into the theme was carrying and holding only one item at a time, but we also decided very early on to make the entire game happen on one screen to keep the scope of our project in check :) Hope this explains our thoughts a bit!

Basically what SeanyCornman said. The way the stage changes is nice but that also regularly happens in Overcooked. Still impressive you guys managed to get something like this out in 2 days tho.

Developer

Thanks for commenting!

We'd definitely love to expand upon the idea to make it more exciting now that we have the core gameplay! :)

Submitted(+3)

Game is fun, REALLY great polish! Unfortunately it's very similar to overcooked, wish there was more of a twist. All in all great job.

Developer

Thank you! :)

It's cool that you found the game fun! We still have lots of ideas from the jam that we didn't have time to do to diversify and spice up the gameplay! :D It feels very natural to come up with ways to build upon the game now that we have a base! I agree that it needs more of a twist to it.

Submitted(+1)

I definatly feel you on the wanting to get more in. We wanted to do the same, 48hr always seems longer than it feels. Im going to keep and eye on your website your games look super good!

Developer

Yeah, I think it's a good thing, though :D Then you'll have ideas to work with after the jam!

Cool, thanks for checking out our other stuff! There's more to come in the future! :)

Fun game! It reminds me of some of my favorite puzzle games. I really liked the theming. Graphics and sound were also very solid and the juice was also on point!

Developer

Awesome that so many aspects of the game were to your liking :) Thank you very much!

Submitted(+3)

Amazing game. Really liked the gameplay.

My only issue is with the "bumping" to get the items, it somehow tired my hand :D

Developer

Thank you for the comment! :)

I totally understand! The control scheme and movement is something we'd want to iterate and improve upon to make it less tiring on the hands!

Submitted(+3)

Your game is amazing ! Graphics, music, sounds, idea... everything is superbly well done. I just had a little trouble understanding what to do at first. One of my favorite games so far :D

Developer

Thank you for playing! Happy to hear you had *ahem* a blast! ;D

We ran out of time when it came to making a clear, proper tutorial to get you started! It's something we'll definitely want to improve upon in the future! :)

Fun game that feels great to play, with an absurd amount of polish for 48 hours. I wish there had been some other mechanic to expand on the (really cool!) mechanics that were already there though! My strategy was, whenever I received an order, I would just put the appropriate number of ores in the furnace and process them as a batch. I never needed to worry about ore burning and got up to 1200 really comfortably before I got bored and quit. Would have made for a more interesting push/pull if the game ever threw some wrenches in my plan.

I feel like there's a ton of potential here, hope you all continue to work on it.

(p.s. my left hand hurts right now, so thanks for making a game I could comfortably play with just my right ^^)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the comment! I hope your left hand is feeling better, and that your right hand doesn't now hurt instead x'D

You were quite the champ scoring that high, thanks for including your score! You're right, though. When things are going well, there aren't that many wrenches being thrown in, so the wrenches are only being thrown in when the player makes mistakes, like leaving an ore in the forge too long or failing to fulfill an order (Both instances blow up 1 floor tile, making it inaccessible and harder to navigate the map). The customers do keep coming more quickly and having less time to complete orders over time, but the build up isn't all too rapid right now. We'll definitely consider throwing more wrenches, it wouldn't be a real workshop otherwise ;P

Great, well polished game! Good music. Difficulty could use some tweaking.

Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment!  Can you elaborate a bit on how you would adjust the difficulty? This was discussed a lot during development so  would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Sure!

And maybe this is because I am familiar with games similar to this one, but the ramp up time for Blastsmith to become challenging for me took about five minutes.  I think this game could benefit from a small difficulty spike early on (like right after the first weapon is handed in), just something that lets the player know what obstacles will be coming if they continue to play.

Developer(+1)

Thank you Ryan, much appreciated!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for elaborating, so we can have useful feedback to improve the game with later down the line! :) It could definitely use adjusting, one of the concerns was giving the player enough time to get adjusted to how everything works, since they would be pretty much thrown into the fray, but we quite possibly overshot it for that one!

Submitted(+3)

This was a blast to play! I love it!

Sadly, I don't think it's all that original considering the number of cooking type games that already exist in the world, and while it does technically adhere to the theme, the limitation of one object at a time didn't feel like a limitation and more just a standard trope of such cooking style games. So I couldn't give it too high a rating in either of those categories.

But that doesn't mean it's a bad game! Just that it doesn't really meet the creative goal of the jam or its theme.

In the design category, if I could give it a 10/5, I definitely would! Well done, and I love the insane level of polish you all put into this! (Might want to actually turn this into a full and paid game at some point, it's that good).

Developer

Thank you for playing & reviewing the game, and taking the time out of your day to do so! :)

You raised some good points! For me personally, you enjoying your time with the prototype is more than enough! If we go forward with this, we'll try our best to introduce new mechanics and gameplay elements to spice things up! Right now the basic gameplay loop is in place, though! :D To us the theme being so open ended was a joy,  since it gave us ideas and inspiration to bounce off of and make what we'd love to make, while at the same time it didn't  limit us! ^^

Submitted(+2)

The game is really well polished and nice to play, it was hard first to know what to do. I just can't see how it fits with the "only one" theme

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the comment & review! :) We kind of ran out of time to make a better tutorial during the jam, but all the feedback is very welcome, because we already have plans on how to improve the game thanks to them! :D When we first started coming up with ideas, we were thinking of limiting ourselves to one screen, because it helps keep the scope of the project in check, but shortly after that we started thinking what else we could come up with that's just "only one", which long story short, spiralled into a puzzle management game about holding just one item at a time. So our main tie to the theme is carrying only one item at a time (The one screen thing kind of stuck as a byproduct as well :P). I hope that opens up our thought process with the theme a bit!

We're actually very glad it was such an open ended theme, since we got to make a game we all really enjoyed coming up with, building and playing, and it was an unforgettable jam experience for us! :)

Submitted(+1)

Thanks for your detailed comment. I believe you are a very few steps away from a very solid commercial product, keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Encouraging words to hear, thank you!

Submitted(+2)

love it, get overcooked vibes. great art style

Developer

Thanks for playing! :D Overcooked is a super fun game and definitely inspired us! :)

Submitted(+3)

Very addictive and fine game. The only problem I've had, I didn't notice the furnace where I can melt, as it takes after just usual environment.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to give our game a try! :) We have gotten a great amount of feedback on the furnace being a bit confusing to find at first. If we end up working on this game more in the future,  having an intro sequence for new players with a few more pointers for the basic gameplay loop should alleviate that problem ^^

Submitted(+1)

I think, you will managed to solve all the problems. And hope, you'll release it in the future. As it a superb game.

Developer(+1)

I hope so, we'll definitely need to work on the movement controls as well, to make them less straining on the hands! Thank you, we'll try our best!

Submitted(+3)

hi its me again :) since i got to actually play which thank you for the smaller res version, it was great! if you get into it you could have some temporary carpal tunnel  after you stop xD

Developer

Heya, nice to see you again :D

Sorry about the issues earlier, awesome that it worked for you now though! Oh boy, my hands probably cursed me after doing some intensive testing during the jam x'D If we decide to go forward with this project after the jam, hopefully we can work out some ways to alleviate the hand strain!! It's an important thing for longer play sessions. :)

(+3)

Really well done, and really good design. I love the first step of the game as I discover "by myself" how the game works, and not throught a tutorial.

Developer

Hooray! :3 Great that you loved it! It's nice to hear that the initial jump into the game turned out clear enough that you can "catch" it and just start doing your thing! I think there's a few improvements to consider in the future so it clicks even faster, though! :) Thank you for taking the time to play our game!

Submitted(+3)

Love the level of polish, game loop and overall tone of the game! You should definitely go way further with this.

Developer

Duly noted!!! We'll definitely discuss future plans with the team once all the jam craziness is over haha :') Thank you for taking the time to play our game and leaving a comment!

Submitted(+3)

This has to be on the Top Games video or I RIOT! Really awesome work people, you could ship this as a complete minigame and nobody would think that it was made in 48 hours. Love it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! BIG <3!
The positivity and comments from everyone are overwhelming, and we're all swooning from joy! :')

Submitted(+3)

Finished game.

Almost everything is intuitively understandable. But it was hard at first  to understand what should I do to make an item: I sow instruction, I took ore... Then I understand where the heat is and all became clear.

Developer

Thanks for playing and sharing your experience! :D

We tried to do our best to guide the player in the right direction to get started, so we can give them the reigns and let them loose. Glad it wasn't overly confusing! The player introduction to the game is something that could use a sequence of it's own though, and would definitely be done if we were to take this project further after the jam! :)

Submitted(+3)

It's very challenging, especially of "so many" combinations and required items. I wish the were some place to store one ore more items instead to dump them. But nevertheless it's fun to play :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback, I'm happy you still had fun! :D I see what you mean, though! Having a place to hold the items would make life so much easier. We were thinking about that as we were making the game, but we ended up just having the trash dump system, because that was another way to introduce more chaos into the whole thing! That was our thought process: Chaos, Chaos, and more Chaos! Bwhaha- Okay, I might be getting a bit carried away ;P
