You took the concept of a game like VVVVVV and then managed to put an original spin on it that is totally in line with the theme. As you might be able to see if you look at my comment history, I usually have some constructive criticism, even for games that I really liked. But for this game, I have nothing. It's really good. Perfect score.
I found this game by searching for the Metroidvania tag and looking at ones from the GMTK game jam. I found some great games this way, but alas, yours was the last one and now I'm out of my Metroidvania fix. At least I saved one of the best for last!
Thanks so much, that really means a lot. I'm happy you enjoyed it!
Very original idea and artwork. I missed sound, though.
I like the idea, and the art is nice as well. However, it wasn't all that clear to me what I needed to do. I guess I had to go to the terminals in the other colours, but does it matter in which order and how can I reach them? The facility seemed pretty big and I was quickly starting to loose my bearing. I don't know if the gravity was only up and down or also left and right, but that would be pretty cool if it isn't in the game already. Some sound would be great as well, even if it's just sounds of the astronaut in his suit.
I definitely leave you to discover where to go next, and the game doesn't really communicate a bigger goal. There is an order of locks and keys and I hope they're laid out in such a way that you find them at the right time. For me that really recalls the feeling of Metroid, where you're just dropped into a place and have to figure it out as you go, but it does make things rather obtuse. Would a map have helped, perhaps? Or some hint at the final goal?
Yeah, a map would be useful.
Noted! I think it would be useful too. Perhaps in a future update. Thanks for the feedback!
And to your other points: I would have loved to put in sound but I didn't get around to it. It would have made things so much richer. And I thought about doing more with gravity but I found it gets really complex designing good levels that work with all directions and still restrict you in some way.
Really great game! This has some of the best level design out of the submissions! The introduction of the mechanics is paced well, the checkpoints are good, and it's very clear what each console activates.
Thank you so much ❤️. This really made my day.
Really cute and cool entry! Had fun playing it!
The graphics look nice based on the photos, I wasn't able to play though because when I opened the game it just gave the error = Unable to find game!!:
Oh no! What platform was this?
If it's on Mac, make sure you take the game out of the .dmg container. Drag it into Applications or onto your Desktop or anywhere, and then open it.
Very good game! The graphics fit well, the SFX are great, the gameplay is intising and interesting! Very solid jam entry, you did a very good job! Be proud of yourself!!!
Is there a version for windows?
Sadly, no.
I hadn't realized I would need a Windows machine to make a Windows build in GameMaker: Studios until it was too late. I'm working from a Mac. I'm trying to borrow a Windows laptop now. Once I have a Windows version available, I'll link to it from the game's description.
And here it is now! https://github.com/bakkerjoeri/derelict/releases/tag/v1.0.0
That was worth the wait, ty!
This is a solid gold :) as usual your games have an amazing presentation. Great ideas behind them. It remind me a little with Tower of Heavens by askiisoft but if you took the rules and applied it on a larger scale metroidvania style.
I am impressed of how well the levels are designed. They are amazing.
Great entry as usual :)
Thank you so much for the lovely compliments. I'm really happy you enjoyed the level design. It's the part I had the most fun with, sketching out the world outline and fitting levels into that structure was a blast, and I'm glad it translates well.
