Really fun game!
I spent a good amount of time playing!
Nice job.

How does your game fit the theme?
A virus wrecks havoc inside a computer and deletes data randomly. If left alone it goes out of control and deletes all our data.

The game had a nice concept and I really enjoyed playing it. Unfortunately it was quite short but the more you practise the faster you will get so no need to worry :) It's unfortunate you didn't have time to implement platforms with the same art as on the game since that would have made a big difference to the overall feel but that's also related to the issue of time. Overall the game was very creative and I definitely enjoyed what I was able to play, I really hope you keep making more games, good job!
thank you for playing, reviewing and leaving a comment! I came up with the idea for this on the last day so I was scrambling to make everything work D:
I did upload a version that has the platform sprites if you're curious: https://arya-s.itch.io/out-of-bytes
The Celeste-esque movement makes it fun to reach the plataforms, and the concept is interesting. Maybe with some more features or different obstacles this could be really something!
I liked the main mechanic, although the controls were a bit difficult, maybe rearranging them in a different way, I couldn't use the arrow keys as they move the page up/down so I had to use the WASD but the Z/X/C and Space are too close, I would recommend something like
WASD - Movement
J - Jump
K - Grab
Keep it up, the game has potential
Good idea with the levels getting harder as the platforms disappear, nice work
The game controls pretty nicely, and it's fun just moving around, which can be hard to achieve!
Like another commenter has mentioned, I was a little confused by the virus, and avoided it at first thinking I had to stay on untouched platforms as long as possible. I also got kind of concerned when things seemed to have crashed after falling a handful of levels, which seems to just be the end of the game?
thank you for taking time to play it and thanks for the feedback!
Really happy to hear the the controls are nice. I based this on Celeste and tried to replicate a lot of their movement code.
I can see how the virus mechanic is confusing, it's not explained anywhere and the score should maybe say "0 Bytes saved". Maybe that would be an indicator of what you have to do but ideally it should have an intro. The "crash" is the end of the game sadly :( ran out of time for the jam.
thank you again!
Interesting use of the theme, I initially thought the virus was going to hurt me so I was a little bit confused at first but the game is cute. I really love the wall jumping and grabbing!
Nice wall-jumping and animations. Got to understand the virus mechanic after I touched the red platforms. Could use a different type of feedback to show it is the source for points and destruction
thank you for trying it out and leaving a comment!
I'm really happy to hear you like the wall-jump and the animations. I have a newer version of the game on my itch where the platforms have tiles with binary numbers in them and they turn red. I think maybe that's a bit more obvious then but I could've added something as simple as "Bytes saved" to the score at the top - maybe that would've made it easier to understand.
Ideally it should have an intro but I ran out of time.
The window moves around when controlling the character on firefox, Google chrome works fine though. Pretty neat concept trying to catch the platforms before they disappear but it looks like the game just kinda hangs until you reach the very bottom.
Pressing space scrolls-down the game-window out of view in firefox. A workaround is to unzoom until the scrollbar disappears. What does Z/X/C do? Neat little platformer btw. I like how the player just falls into the next zone/level instead of being punished ^_^
Thank you for your kind comment.
Yeah I've heard about the zooming problem. Wish I had left jump on C. Another workaround (on Chrome) is to click into the canvas for focus.
The idea was the punishment is you lose your data from that level/cant get those points but I never had time to implement the top score system!
Interesting Concept!
Maybe in the future you could add a tutorial. I was kinda confused about what I was supposed to do while playing, so maybe a tutorial could clear things up a bit.
Though I do think it's a cool idea. Good job!
Thank you for checking out the game!
Yeah, I really wanted to have a tutorial where the player is in a room pre-Tron-ified with a computer and some scientist explaining what we have to do (jump into the computer tron style and save our data by getting to it before the corruption takes the file over) but alas no time.
I thought this was a really tricky platformer but it gets easier after you realise you can grab ledges instead of falling off! cool game, plenty of levels too
