I like the concept and the artwork.

It would be cool to have some kind of music and sound (both are free):

  • Sound effects, I use bxfr, it's an SFX generator that randomly generate sounds that can be used
  • Music, I use Chrome Music Lab Song Maker which has a very simple UI and gives you good result in a few clicks

Also a little tutorial for each character would be cool.

Oh yeah, also I've noticed in past jams that having your game playable in browser and a simple thumbnail for the page makes people way more likely to try it (for me I bookmarked your game on Monday but had to reinstall my old laptop to play it because I'm not running unknown software on my real machine)

Hope this is not too harsh, overall I liked the game, good job!

Developer

Thanks! I have heard of bxfr and I'll look into Chrome Music Lab Song Maker. I do agree that this needs Audio. I learned a lot about time management and wanted to include that and a tutorial. I was trying to put in a UI for it but it kept failing and I ended up scraping it to make sure I submitted something. I originally did have it as a WebGL build but it was not working (found out it was due to compression issues later). I will have it a WebGL build for the next Jam i'm in.

I appreciate that you took time to download and review. I do not think you were too harsh at all. I appreciate the criticism/advice. Helps me grow!

Thanks for playing!

i like it                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                The design of the cubes, their animations and variations make me smile. The game really desperately needs musical accompaniment. Little Lost without her.

There were minor difficulties with the stairs, they do not always work correctly)

Developer

I agree with the audio. It desperately needs a backing track and audio/particle feedback. I ran out of time for the audio. The good news is that I spend most of my times on the characters. It's my first time doing pixel art and the fact it brought a smile to you is awesome.

As for the ladder/stairs, I'm not sure why you can get caught at the bottom of the ladder. It will be with time to investigate.

Thanks for playing!

Though a little rough in execution, I really love the concept! Might want to add the "attack" control to the description - after much trial and error, I found out that Left Click did the trick.

Developer

I completely agree. Like quite a few during the jam, I am a solo dev and this was my very first game. I would like to keep working on this. Future ideas include a tutorial UI to show movement and actions. My goal for the attack control is that each class uses the fire key to do their action. Fighter hits, Wizard freezes, I plan to have a Bard that Charms guards towards you, etc.

I appreciate you taking time to play! Thanks

I had the same problem. You should probably update the itch.io page instructions.

Developer

I read Meanwhile's review and it didn't click (no pun intended). I didn't realize I missed the left click functionality. Thanks for the call out! Did not mean to miss that.

Got to the 3rd loop before I realised I'm an idiot. Really cool game- you should have some in game prompts to teach you each characters mechanics but other than that I had a good time

Developer(+1)

I want to work on this some more. I was trying to get in game prompts to work but none of the systems I was trying to learn worked properly and I was running out of time. As for the loop, I plan to have a menu and game over screen and more levels. Thanks for taking the time to play :) I appreciate the feedback!
