played the linux build, thanks for adding that! a really impressive project! sadly, even with the tutorials introducing moves one at a time, i quickly felt overwhelmed by all the controls and just gave up. i'm probably not the target audience for such a game. still really nice, and congrats on your first! :)
Glad to hear the linux build worked :D
Yeah, while introducing each control sequentially was a good start, I definitely didn't add enough spacing between them -- I think honestly 3 levels per thing (sliding, grappling, grav whip) is probably the minimum to be a good introduction.
Thank you for the positive words :)
I can appreciate how well this one is put together. Feels like a "gamer's game" to me. :) But sadly I'm not much of a gamer, I did manage the first level (about 3-4 minutes of trying lol). Then I couldn't manage to hold Ctrl while trying to control the slide with WASD and still look with the mouse!!
Dynamic music is a nice touch, and visually its got a great style I reckon. Nice work on your first GWJ.
had alot of fun playing your game and beating all levels! i really love speedruning games with sliding like this. although, i didn't understand the grav whip mechanic, liked the idea, it just felt random and disorienting to use
beat Tutorial level3 in 10 seconds, and Tutorial level2 in 7.5 seconds, idk if i should be proud about it, but i am)
Glad you liked it, and those are some pretty good times, you should be proud!
I definitely underestimated how confusing the gravity whip can be for people who, unlike me, didn't make the game XD watching FunBaseAlpha yesterday, as well as reading these comments, shows me that it definitely needs a lot more practice/explanation. Hopefully I can make some better tutorial levels after the jam ends :^)
It was a really neat concept, but I struggled a lot with the controls. I couldn’t get through the first tutorial because I kept falling off the platforms. The grappling mechanics seemed really cool, I just never got very good at them. I kept trying to press ESC to open a menu and pick a different level, but that just seemed to un-capture the mouse. I liked the music, and adjusting it based on speed was a nice touch.
Hiya, thanks for playing!
I guess I should've mentioned that the jumps don't work like in other platformers -- since you have very little control in the air, you have to press forward before jumping in order to get across platforms. (I know this may be controversial to believers in coyote time ;))
The ESC behavior is just what the browser does; that's why the pause menu is bound to P instead. In the future I'll see if I can leave it bound to both (after all, if the browser releases the cursor, you probably want the game to pause anyway).
I think I may have unintentionally made the game a bit too hard for a jam :`) it definitely takes a bit of practice to properly use the tools. Lesson learned for next time, hopefully!
I agree, the music is great! (I didn't make it, so I can say that :D) I thought the two pieces worked really well together.
Thank you again for playing, and especially for your feedback <3
Hello ! I'd love to play but the HTML5 version is quite laggy for me to the point that it's barely playable. Is there a way to get a Linux build ?
Hiya, the jam organizers let me upload a linux build, so you can go ahead and try it :^) let me know if there are any issues and I'll try to fix them (I won't be able to test it myself until tomorrow, hence my not uploading it in the first place). Anyways, hope it works, have fun, and thanks for playing!
This was so awesome. It reminds me a lot of surfing in Counter Strike, but with way more mechanics. I loved how the music changed based on your speed. I think for a WIP this is a really cool start to something. I love movement in games, so its nice to see people making this type of game.
Great job!
Congratulations on your first GWJ submissions! It was ambitious to tackle 3d on your first submission here, but you did a fantastic job! At first, I was a little overwhelmed by the number of options available for controls, but eventually, I was able to start taking advantage of the different methods to navigate everywhere! I finished almost all of the levels that were available and had a great time.
