Really cool and unique idea combining a platformer with a tower defense game. I really liked how the towers created light fitting with the wildcard. It was fun placing them around. I was able to survive a few waves. :)
Great job!
Thank you for playing! Glad you liked it. (^^)/
Great concept. I love mixing genres. I did have some trouble keeping the kids safe, so either I need to git gud, or I need a softer introduction. It wasn't clear to me why I should choose the torch or the lantern. (Of course, our submission had exactly the same problems, so I'm not saying I can do better.)
Great entry.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback, plexsoup! I appreciate it. Probably I should have just added the info torch vs lantern to the itch.io page. It’s actually on the github README (which has to be closed-source due to asset licenses :( ) I will remember it next time. In fact, an ingame glossary (like in Hero’s Hour) was planned but didn’t have a high enough priority to make it to the end of the jam. Thanks again for your time!
I loved playing it! The controls felt kind of awkward -- I couldn't figure out why I wasn't able to place lanterns or torches sometimes -- but other than that, fun and doesn't overstay its welcome.
Thank you for playing and for your feedback, @aFoolsDuty! I can only imagine what went wrong on the placement but I suppose it’s either because there was already a tower (which should then be marked in red on screen), or you didn’t have enough coins.
Probably the latter as I didn’t make it obvious how much each tower costs to not clutter the UI too much. There’s probably an elegant solution to that too though. I just didn’t came up with one :) Again, thank you!
I like the combination of tower defense and platformer! It was really fun to play. I felt awful for abandoning all the children except one, but I couldn't win the game otherwise 😅. Wave 4 was especially tricky I think. Great job!
Thanks for playing and actually finishing the game, @codingkook! Glad you liked it. And yes, that was one of my design goals: making the decision sacrifice any of your objectives emotionally hard. If I continue on this project, it would be nice to give each child an individual personality so the urge to protect them gets enhanced.
😠that’s diabolical, i love it
