I think this game would have benefitted from two improvements: one, scale it up using Godot's standard approach by defining the resolution in the project settings, but then setting the window size to large than that. I think probably your resolution was a tad too big, so the scale that ended up happening was small or non-existent. I tend to set the resolution to 320 x 180, then the window size to 1280 x 720. It's not perfect, but it seems to fit on most screens decently well and still have enough room for players to see most of the screen at once.

Secondly, some of the art kind of blurred together due to the stippling or the dithering. Over-dithering can distort the look of an entire piece, making the art look messier and harder to read. I find dithering to be powerful when used in moderation.

Both of these things are actually pretty minor to me, just thought they'd be helpful for you.

Overall, the game was pretty complete and fun! I'm very impressed that this was your first jam, genuinely very good submission for that, and I really hope to see more of you in the future!

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and helpful critique. I really appreciate your suggestions and kind words. I will apply those tips in the future!

This gave me retro game feels, something I would play at an arcade or back in the day. Controls were a bit loose, felt a bit floaty and ended up taking damage when I shouldn’t have. The game was simple and made for a quick play through. Nice job!

Nice oldschool look. Those small robots vere hard to notice even with the red outlines. I was sometimes panicing but having fun.

Maybe you could have bigger projectiles so that it would be a little easier to hit those small grey robots.

Thanks for the submission! The game was a bit difficult to start, but I got the hang of it eventually. I found the little zippy guys to be really hard to kill since I had to line my turtle up just right to get them. Maybe starting with a bigger, easier to hit robot would be good? I love the aesthetic but the background was a little too high in contrast and made it a bit hard to understand what was going on at first.

After a few tries, I got the hang of it. The turtle is quite fast for a turtle, to start with. I deliberately didn’t upgrade the speed because of that. Maybe start with a slower turtle? A turtlier turtle.

Great suggestion, that would make the scaling a lot more satisfying. Thanks for playing!

Great old school game. I like the menus asthetic. Sometimes is hard to enter a room and receive damage right away without having anything that I can do.

Thanks for the critique! If I had more time, adjusting the enemy AI was high up on my to do list. A proper state machine with a patrolling state was what I was thinking but unfortunately had to be pushed to the side to focus on other features.

Thank you for playing!
