My let's play...
After a few attempts and experimenting I managed to master the mechanics and then the game wasn't so hard anymore. It was pretty fun trying to achieve stable orbit, flinging yourself far enough to pick up the fuel, and approximating whether or not you'll hit that asteroid during the next cycle. RNG could use some tweaking but it's bearable. Nice work. :)
I enjoyed this game and it stands up well as-is. I dig the concept of gathering data as the goal for having a dance with danger - very much in the spirit of space research. Despite the realism, I think this game could benefit from wrapping the player around the screen if they find themselves overpowering themselves into space. Also if there was some indicator on the screen of your highest score, it would motivate me to take more risks to try and climb to a higher score.
Pretty solid little arcade-y game on all aspects, but I too feel that the data collection take forever. Maybe it was time dilation?
Anyway, combined with the arguably stiff controls, I found myself between rocks and a black hole multiple times before I was able to finally finish it.
Felt like it took a looong time to gather enough data.
OK now that I can run it, your game is fun. My only issue is that the black hole is pretty much impossible to escape if you get to close. I think the 'how to play' screen looks good. I think I just liked the whole UI of the game. I also liked the ship design and the animation on the tanks is a nice touch.
Anyone else having trouble running the game on linux?
Edit: My bad. It looks like some games are executable by default and some are not. Fixed it: Properties > Permissions > Allow executing file as program.
Data collection doesn't take framerate into account. On my fast computer I was able to fill the bar up in one swoop (and some other animations play too fast). On slower computers it might be unfairly hard.
Otherwise this is a fun little prototype with cute art and sounds.
This is really sweet! I love the physics of the black hole! This might be intended behaviour but could not use propel in two directions at once.
This was truly fascinating! Understanding the physics to find a stable orbit, and learning how to slow down or speed up to properly avoid asteroids, made a very great puzzle. Sure the game is pretty hard, but it still has a very satisfying learning curve. It took me a while to finish it, but my last attempt was extremely fast, since I had acquired the right technic to optimize my movements. True, sometime RNG can give some intense situations, but most of the times my death seemed fair.
A really cool entry overall!
This! I played too much Kerbal Space Program to fail orbital movement :D Just find stable orbit and wait until data is collected
I reallyy like this entry, the music is a great fit
