Thanks to all who tried the game and left a comment. Sorry for not replying to everyone but I've been busy this days. As I said it's the first time developing in godot but I have some experience in Unity. I joined the jam really late so I didn't have time to learn+develop something really cool.
To be honest, I wasn't going to even upload the game because I thought it wasn't worth of it, but I'm glad I did and some of you actually enjoyed it.
Thanks again, and I'll see you in the next Godot Wild Jam with a better game!
Nice first entry. Well themed version of Dodge the Creeps. :) The controls seem to still work before and after the main gameplay loop. I still have issues with managing states like that too.
Congrats on finishing and submitting! It's a solid enough first entry, completely functional, and I hope you keep making more and jamming with us!
It's simple, but hey, it's your first game in Godot and it works! I do think that more variety in gameplay can serve the game well -- more type of obstacles and maybe some active enemies, for example, can liven up the game a lot past the first few seconds.
"First time using Godot" -- Nice job getting a game done! Looks great. I think I recognized some elements from the dodge the creeps tutorial.
Add some AudioStream2D nodes for thrust and collisions and you're well on your way.
Fun but short game. I always die at exactly 20 seconds. It just happened four times in a row. Anyways, It's definitely light on features and fx but it's a jam game and it's playable so no worries.
It's fun to hover around the black hole and shoot up through gaps in the asteroids when there's a ton of them on screen. There's fun gameplay here.
Like other games of this type it gets boring and repetitive quickly, there's not much incentive to shoot for a high score.
As others have stated it does feel like you get trapped sometimes by bad luck, I think making the collision shape for the player's ship smaller would feel better - would've given more player skill opportunities. Controls are tight and it has cute visuals, nice work!
Thanks for playing! I agree with you, I should have spent some time balancing the game, but I downloaded Godot on friday for the first time, so thats everything I had time for.
As you mention, the collision shape of both player and asteroids is too big, and I also noticed that the asteroids should be smaller in general. I should've added the possibility of moving backwards as well, or make the 'gravity' bigger.
The reason why you can get trapped is because difficulty increases every two seconds, adding some asteroids to the spawn loop. As I couldn't spend time in balancing the game, I think this might be a game-breaking feature
At first I thought this was as a simple vertical scrolling, but by staying close to the black hole I realized it was more complex than that. The ship is in fact orbiting around the center, am I correct?
Anyway, I found that visual effect quite original! I regret it's not visible once we get far away from the black hole.
Aside from that, the controls are pretty good. And while the game is short and pretty random, it's still nice to play.
Thank you very much!! you are right, the ship orbits around the black hole, but I made the camera a child of the ship visuals, so that they rotate together (you can download the project if you want although is pretty simple). Thanks for playing, I'll be playing all your games tonight.
I agree with the randomness of the game, thats something I have to improve for my next projects
Nice! Had quite a score on my first go but my tries after felt a bit too random to be enjoyable. :S
