Quality game, good music, intuitive UI. Only often it is not clear whether the dam will visually protect from water. Also, the cursor when building and removing dams is not always where it should be. The camera work was done very well, but during the game I wanted the camera borders to be a little further away, because it was inconvenient to look behind the buildings that stand on the edges of the island. Very good work overall and a great idea of use the theme.

Thank you for playing and the compliments๐Ÿ˜Š !
Thanks also for the constructive criticism (the camera for example). I'll definitely take that to my next project.

So here are my thoughts.

Firstly really great effort for such a short time taking up such a game is pretty ambitious task and you handled it well. The UI worked fine and setting up the UI alone would have taken up quite some time. The block placing was mostly fine as well.

First issue is with screenshake it make it impossible to place multiple units at same time as screen would shake and you would misplace(there is screenshake even if no block is placed.. try clicking in water). Tone it down a bit. The time watching the storm felt really slow. it was also hard to get a grasp of initially.

and did i mention that the camera controls were good.

the devlog is insightful though. good job overall

Developer

First..you posted 3 times the same...so I deleted the other 2 ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Second...thanks for playing and reviewing the game ๐Ÿ˜Š!  Feedback is an essential ingredient of making games.

Good tip to tone down a bit for the screen shake and I did not even have noticed it also shake when you click the water. It should not do that of course.

If I do an update for the game I will try to think of something to make the storm quicker or more action so it does not feel slow. You are just waiting of course and that could be a bit boring and you can feel helpless if you see everything flooded.. Need to brainstorm for a good solution. Maybe real-time building and storms...

Thank you for the other compliments. I tried to do the best I could in the given time, but it was a bit ambitious indeed๐Ÿ˜‰.

I am glad that the devlog was insightful ๐Ÿ˜Š. That is an important part of this jam.

Hope you did enjoy playing the game despite its shortcomings ๐Ÿ˜… ?!

This seemed real difficult to get started with, if it's possible to have any farms survive I don't know how! made it a bit discouraging, like I was doing something way wrong. To be honest I didn't really figure out how to stave off destruction with any amount of success. Graphically it was pretty nice, though the walls of water were a little odd. Sound felt real good, and I think it's really neat attempting something ambitious like this in a jam :)

Developer

First: thanks for playing ๐Ÿ˜!

It was probably a bit too ambitious for the Jam yes ๐Ÿ˜…, but once I was working on it I also had to make sure that something was in place before the deadline... But because of that, unfortunately I had too little time to make a good balance in the game. So that the storms would build up nicely and you have a chance to last a long time. The water physics is not so easy to control in such a short time.

So there is not really a win condition and it is only possible to try to hold on as long as possible and then you also have to be a bit lucky with the random weather forecast ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Rightful criticism and I will certainly try to take that into account next time. Or when I possibly pick this up again for more balance. Of course you should not get the idea that you are doing something wrong. That is not the purpose of a game. Should be fun.

The walls of water at the edge of the screen you mean? Yes that is the code for the storms in action. Those were actually supposed to be just outside the camera.... bug...check. ๐Ÿ˜….

Thanks for the other compliments ๐Ÿ™‚!

Hope you enjoyed it a bit despite the inevitable destruction...?

PS: did you find the Easter egg... with that you would possibly have more options against the water in the beginning. But that's obviously not the way to play the game๐Ÿ™ƒ.

Thanks for the positive words ๐Ÿ˜Š! I'm glad you like this prototype idea for the game.
