I thought your asset usage was really good. Custom facesets, tall map sprites, Low's side view battlers, MV remixes, FSM tiles. . . really nice job putting them all together to make something cool.

I'd love to see you do a little more experimenting with alternative battle systems and maybe a few custom action sequences. Also your Harold SV battler was really cool. Sooooo close to being perfect. Just needed like one or two pixel adjustment on the head I think to make it smoother.

Story was perfect jam length, and it was nice to see an older Harold helping the youth's of MZ. A boss battle before getting rid of the sword would have been cool, especially using all five heroes.

Fun submission Rose! Thanks for making one!

A nice short and straightforward adventure. Good job with the custom face sets!

I love the music and the sprites.  My AS gripe is the player needs to get closer when they physically hit the player. Your maps were very well made as well. Nice Job.

General thoughts from my playthrough (I played on Normal):

  • Overall, this game looks NICE. I love the inclusion of Tonbi's tall sprites and Low's battlers. There's even a custom Harold sprite. FSM for maps is always a good choice. Even the window skin and font have style. And there are custom-drawn busts for the character speaking parts too.
  • There are some minor spelling errors here and there, but nothing that makes it unreadable.
  • Battles have at least enough balance that they don't boil down to "just spam attack," but they mostly do boil down to "use your strongest spells"
  • I like that leveling up means you fully heal. Keeps the game moving.
  • While the battles are fine, I'm not feeling like they were very necessary. The battle system feels disconnected from the rest of the game, aside from the battle with Reid.

In summary, the game overall looks great, and the length is perfect. It's a good game jam game.

A straightforward adventure, overall pretty fun.

I liked that you added a Difficulty option, and enjoyed the custom faces and old Harold battler.

Nice work on the burning town map effects too.

Haven't played this yet, it just stuck out to me that we both seemed to use the same title text font... TITLE TEXT FONT BUDDIES~! :D

(I'll add to this when I get to trying yer game)

Writing some feedback as I go along.

  • That Theme6 remix rocks! I had to sit on the title screen and listen to it in full. Making the middle part half-time was a great choice. I know that goes more toward the creator of the RPG Maker MV remix pack, but I still really loved it.
  • I love the spin on the Reid vs. Harold theme where Reid is an old Harold's apprentice.
  • I like how you approached the Return of Harold theme with Harold coming out of retirement to hunt down Reid.
  • What engine is this made in? I recognize a lot of RPG Maker assets but the engine itself doesn't look the part. MZ?
  • Harold's sideview battle sprite looks like you plopped his head on someone else's body. I appreciate the effort though, drawing sideview sprites must be really hard.
  • Having the Reid battle be in the middle was something I wasn't expecting, and seeing him join the party was a nice surprise. Having five players in the party means battles feel a bit longer than they should though.
  • I kinda wish the ending were a bit more of a climax considering the Reid fight in the burning town that happened before the Song Bird Forest.

Overall, not a bad game. 3/5.

Thank you! The game was made in RPG Maker MZ. I just used taller sprites. I am glad you liked it.
