Loved the concept of a turn based battle game, man I wish there where more card options next time, just to allow to defeat different enemy positions. I do think maybe something you could add would be few rare cards that do an insane amount of burst and issue them out sparingly , so when the player gets that one card that could wipe an entire fleet he is able to use time it at the best  possible time.

Host

Oh this is really cool! I hope you do more with it.

Developer

Thanks a lot for hosting this jam! This is our first game, and we learnt a lot making it. We too hope to go on with the developement! :D

Really fun and so challenging. Just a great card game mechanic. I saw your previous comment that you may implement a full deck of abilities, and that sounds amazing.

Developer

Thanks! We are looking forward to design three full decks (for the Carpenter, the Commander and the Wizard) each with its specific identity. Stay tuned if you want to try it :)

Love the concept but it's damn hard!

Developer

Thank you! The high difficulty level was intentional, but we missed the time to do some playtest and properly balance the game...

This is a really cool idea and I could easily see it expanded into a full game! The first time I was lost and did not understand what was going on, but on the second time it became clear. That said, even if you know what you're doing, things can go to hell pretty quick! Congrats!

Developer

Thank you! We missed the time to properly balance things out, but a "things can go to hell pretty quick" feel is something we strived for from the beginning :D

I love the mechanics, it has the perfect length for a jam game. It just needs any sort of SFX and I bit more available abilities. Being only able to choose 2 from 6 at first incorporates the theme well.

I wish there were more abilities overall, and the ones which are available are too similar to mix up multiple runs, which leads to RNG with the enemy placement more important than the player's choices. In the end though, fantastic entry.

Developer

Your comment is fantastic. The problems you mentioned are very important for the game in our opinion too. Our idea was to have a full-fledged "deck" of abilities for each counselor, and to implement a balanced random behavior for enemies. But we ended up with just a barebone implementation for both as time ran out. We hope to adress these issues in future updates of the game.

This fits the theme perfectly, I could really feel the effects of having so few moves, even more so when the queen is poisoned or killed off. It's a cool concept I really liked it

Developer

Thanks :) We tried hard to convey the feeling of being overwhelmed. We wanted to have more playtests to balance things out though... but we ended up doing just a single iteration.

Holy crap, this is a good game. I enjoy the concept, the challenge, and just the general idea of this game. I really hope you continue putting work into this and expand it! I died so hard, but had so much fun losing. Thanks for making this!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks a lot Garr! Most of the concept and the high difficulty came from trying to capture the theme of the game jam. We also had fun losing during playtest, so we tried to emphasize that aspect :D

Really Cool Concept. If you have the time, I would polish up the UI of the game and fix the issue where the game keeps going even after you "Game Over"

Developer

Thank you! This was our first game and our first jam, and we made lots of mistakes... We hope to collect feedback like yours to continue developement and improve the game!
