Very simple but still very cool. Some sound and a map would have added to the overall experience.

Developer

Thanks! I'm working on moving this all to a new setup with a proper map and actual animation to transition between rooms! :)

Pretty good attempt at a Dungeon Master style maze. Your cartoony graphics are great - I want the green crocodile thing as a pet :). The controls were a bit confusing as normally left/right rotates the view rather than moving left right. That combined with no feedback after moving (apart from the scene changing which sometimes didn't) meant I was lost very quickly.

Developer

Thank you! And you're right, it's a bit of a mess with movement. I spent a few hours trying to get rotation to work with consistent mapping but it kept breaking! Realized now after a lot of reading that I was going at it entirely wrong! Whoops. I'm going to give this a second crack without the time pressure and see if I can make it more functional. Until then, our intrepid warrior can only move forwards, left, and right!

I like this as a simple first person dungeon crawler, and reading up on Mictlan I honestly think this sort of game is the perfect fit for exploring it more. The gameplay itself is rather simple and there's no audio (at least that I could hear, but maybe that's just on my end please let me know if that's the case) but the MS paint art and the varying room appearances gives it a nice charm.

Out of curiosity was there any specific game you used as a reference for the gameplay style? I'm familiar with the Grimrock series, Dungeon Master, Legio and Eye of the Beholder but I'd be happy to hear about any others. And if there is no influence of another game then kudos for having it all come together.

For a first solo game I thought this was nice, good work!

Thank you! No audio, I could barely managed what I did :D  I based this on vague memories of Might and Magic and Bard's Tale from my youth. I went in thinking I wanted to do a rogue style top down dungeon, but then thought it would be more interesting to have it first person. Unfortunately the movement barely works so its back to the drawing board!

Yeah the first person view I certainly find more immersive, and I feel your pain with the movement logic. I tried something similar in Java a few years back and while my solution worked it was incredibly hacky. I wish you the best of luck with the new and improved system post jam!

Nice art but the game is a little confusing. Was the ladder the end? If the ladder was the end, then it was a cool short game.

Developer

Yeah sorry the ladder was the end. The idea was to do 9 levels, but obviously that was too much for me to handle. You made it through if you made it to the ladder!

Cool game, I like the 2D but 3D effect, but i am confused exactly how to play

Developer

Sorry, which parts were confusing? The game is a little railroady since you're just picking a different path at each interval and there's no backtracking. If you made it to the ladder, you made it!

the attacking and moving, but eventually i figured it out
