I am a programmer. Been doing it for 4 months, originally python on my own and then JavaScript and java with a bootcamp (github). I also can do art (insta) but I don't have much experience doing digital art or quite enough tools tbh. I contributed very messy digital art for my last game jam which was 48 hours (we spent more like about 20 working, it was not that serious). It took me ages to get used to the tools so it didn't turn out impressive haha. I also created the concept for that game and did the sound design (using free resources, not any great programming skill). That is the only game jam i've done so far. I've made games a long time ago with GameMaker but not much recently. More server and web-dev projects. I've started playing around with phaser.io in my spare time to distress from my other stuff and would like to use that to make a game. I chose this game jam because I love history, it's always been my favourite subject in school, and as an adult I still love history podcasts etc. I think it could be really fun! However, I think more can probably be achieved over a short period of time in a team.

So I am looking for (in no particular order):

  • Another programmer with more specific game-dev experience (not crazy amounts,  just more than me). We can do pair programming or split tasks, but there does need to be good communication.
  •  A composer/sound designer FILLED
  • Perhaps someone with a much better digital art setup than me to be in charge of art. I would love to do this stuff but I just don't have the tools or the skills with non-analogue mediums.

I will happily also take on more general design/writing tasks because I enjoy that.

Anyone on the team should be willing to chat on discord and have regular meetings/hang out in rooms in a server so we can chat if and when required. I really value good teamwork/organisation/cooperation on a project. Especially with the other programmer, it's really vital we can talk to each other and share screens etc and have some sort of organisation.

Hello hellboy! Your post reads really interesting. We share the same passions and work-flows to large degree, I think. Would like to join your team as an 2D artist if you think that my skills and style are fitting your needs. Please check my itch.io profile (https://humane-tiger.itch.io/) - you will find some art books (game art/assets/concepts I've created in the past) as well as the game "Icarus" which I've implemented myself using native webtech (JavaScript/HTML/CSS) - and some introduction of myself.

As you will see, I am also starting with hand-drawing my game art. But I also have a lot of knowledge of how to digitize, blend and post-process these drawings to turn them into fully-functional game assets. So if you are interested in me joining your team (I think we can both learn a lot from each others best practices and knowledge) don't hold back and contact me. My discord handle: HumaneTiger#9163

Please note: I am not sure if I am ready to join right on the 1st day (31. Dez / 1. Jan). I am also listed as one of the contributors for the coming HAGJ (I did the Jam page design). I will have to ask Holmgang, if it is okay for me to join the Jam under these circumstances.

Sounds great! Let me know if you are able to join under those circumstances. On what day would you be starting then? 2nd? That should be fine as long as you are confident you can make the assets in time. Your game icarus is quite charming by the way. Anyway, please let me know soon if you are able to join. I assume some other artists will apply if you leave it too long.

Alright. Was talking to Holmgang. He is totally fine with me joining your team as an artist for the upcoming HAGJ Jam.

Have some other artists applied meanwhile? If so, I have no problem with stepping back - I am pretty late with my answer.

If I can make all the game assets in time really depends on the amount and type of art you expect. At the end of my creators page I listed lot of different art styles I admire, would like to try out and feel capable to provide. Some are more time-intensive, some are less. Find any style there you would like me to contribute to your game?

Hello! Sorry for not replying straight away. No other artists have applied so I'd be happy to do it with you. Don't stress yourself too much about having to make super complicated game assets. You can do whatever style is practical for you in the time. Out of the ones you sent I quite like the little elf,  goat in a coat and the medieval one (since it may be quite fitting).  We can discuss this more on discord. I will add you and start making a server for the people interested.

I'm very new to this field, but I do do pixel art for fun, if that's what you're looking for?
