Really cool submission. I found that I could stack make a candy cane ladder by calling back one and then throwing immediately. Obviously this isn't intended so I didn't use it but I think you could fix it by having a cooldown so you can't throw the canes right after calling them back. I also wish that there would more interesting problems more often, most of it was a simple matter of sticking a cane in a wall and then jumping on it. The bit at the end where you put two canes on top of each other was a really cool moment though, I wish there were more like it. I noticed that throwing a cane at a moving platform lead it to suspend in the air, maybe this could be used as a mechanic? Really cool game though with good art and music and gameplay that's good but could be even better with some expansion.
Thanks a lot for the feedback, the game has some interesting flavors, and a speedrun way. Some problems were born naturally during the Jam, some we left others we improved. Maybe in the future we will add additional levels with more complicated mechanics! Merry Christmas!
Great game!
Thanks!
the graphics is gorgeous and the controls is smooth, amazing work
Quite an impressive for a seven-day game. The responsive controls, nice visuals and organic level design make exploring the cave feel quite rewarding.
My main suggestion is a different choice of music. Exploring the cave could feel like something mysterious, while the music sounds like I'm playing skip-a-rope in kindergarten. The jump noise might be a bit too overly cartoony as well. Minor complaints aside, great work!
Yeaaah, i had a system written for the music to be different, but in the end there was problem with Godot 4, and i couldn't let it stay.
So unfortunately i picked the least annoying music and left it on loop :P
I like the overall feel of the game. The gameplay mechanic of throwing canes to progress throughout the game is very nice. However, it has some navigation issues. When I progress, it's hard to know where I need to go, and whether I am supposed to go there in general or if I am cheesing it. Other than that, the controls feel very nice, and the overall atmosphere is very cozy.
Thanks for your input
Yeah, navigation is kinda harsh but as long as you completed it you did good.
Hey they game is even completable with just 1 sugar cane so i guess if you want to cheese it you can hehe
I'm trying to work on my level building skills but its going rough
This is a great game! The visuals are good and has good character animation. The character movement feels nice too. The theme fits well and the use of the anvil to craft more platforms is creative.
Suggestions: create more distinct areas to complete so that you feel you are progressing more as you go through the game. Also, I’d prefer to use one button to throw and call back the platforms.
Overall a fun game with a creative use of the special object!
Thanks :P
Yeah, distinct areas would be great but there was no time left unfortunately to make anything grander than what we are left with
