I played your game and the first thing was it is laggy as frick xD! That's not a big deal cause its a game jam and i don't expect these game to be optimized. But it is something good to learn for future projects and this game might be a good place to start learning.
The NPCs were honestly good.
Graphics were decent. I like the jungle (Disregarding the lag xD)
There wasn't a definitive end and if there was, i missed it so i apologies, but the game play was good.
A solid start and defiantly is good overall. Great job
Good start! Good to have some combat and impressed with the health system! I enjoy breaking out of the games, so I spent a lot more time just exploring out of bounds lol that just me though, unless you have an open world I suggest placing some basic shape meshes and making big walls with them, then setting them to "Hidden in Game" on the right panel for the places players aren't supposed to cross. Good job! Add some audio and you've got yourself a good proof of concept!
Haha thank you bro! If you could elaborate on the “big wall concept” that would be great. What I think you are referring to is the end of the game where there was a black box, and I didn’t make it clear that you were supposed to go through the black box like a cave entrance, I think that’s what you mean? I’ll make sure to add audio, and I’m so glad you enjoyed the game so far.
I want to echo what Multivitae has said about the game. I can see some great potential here. I agree with the level design, remember to block off the areas you don't want you player to wonder off to.
Audio is 100% missed in the game, even if it was a simple SFX added to the axe swing. I liked the AI and how they take damage, maybe a loot system or if they dropped health instead of being able to regen your health, I just ran to the end and took all the AI on in one go simply knowing I can just regen at the end of it. This gave the impression the enemy are easy to kill and not a huge threat.
It was a good challenge to get a game made in 2 weeks and you have made an amazing start to something here. Keep working away at it and update it regularly to make a fun game to be played by many. I too look forward to what you can achieve with this. Congrats.
Yeah thanks so much man! I’ve never done sound design before so I’ll be really interested to add that. I also plan to add things to collect from dead AI and just make them more useful as well. I made the AI fairly easy to take on because I didn’t want anyone struggling to pass the level in order to rate it, but I’ll definitely take that into account. Thanks again and I’ll continue working on it!
Oh Sound design is one of my favourite parts, it really does bring it all together. Its a really good base to work from, keep working on it and I look forward to seeing how you progress!
Big respect to you bro, I’ll be launching my channel soon where you can give me more feedback!
Had a grin on my face playing this, even in it's very early stages I can see massive potential! Even without sound the axe swings seemed visceral. I started to get vibes from old wave combat games such as Painkiller, Duke Nukem and Doom. So this game is in solid company.
Keep going! Consider reducing the environment textures and foliage to medium, or even low levels of detail, as the player won't be seeing them as they charge into combat! Ensure your map is blocked off correctly (I love the towering, otherworldly mountain cliffs!)
Adding some proper gritty audio to this will do wonders! Excellent beginnings, and I can't wait to see what you can do going forward! Well done :)
Bro, thank you so much! I’m so glad that you enjoyed the game and I’ll continue working on it. Thanks so much for the feedback, but I also have a few questions. How would I be able to reduce ALL of the foliage to a lower quality level, because I also noticed that it had an impact on performance. Also what do you mean by make sure your map is blocked off correctly. (Do you mean like I missed some cliffs and you could get out of the map?). But again thanks so much for being patient with the process and helping me out, and I’m glad you are enjoying it so far. I’ll be posting devlogs soon on my yt (Solo Ghost Games) and feel free to give me feedback on those as well. See ya 😁
No probs!
In terms of the foliage models you can select their mesh asset, right click and replace with a lower detail version, if their from megascans it's a case of downloading the lower detail one and doing a switch in the ue editor.
The maps were done just right, it's just the inner 'corridor' level had some parts to the side where it was possible to run off and between the player part of the level and the middle distance mountains. So yeah you could 'get out' as the player!
These arent even things that are even 'wrong' its just part of the process of working through and tweaking it.
We'll have to set up a group of some sort, but in the mean time feel free to post on here with any questions and updates!
Thanks again, I’ll keep working on it!
