Cool game! Some sound fx would greatly improve gameplay. Sometime I didn't know I was being hurt until it was too late. Nice dungeon crawler!
Like Hakuzo said, it plays like hexen games. It's neat really, the only thing missing is dark background music. The rest is cool, Well Done!
PS: If you have the time, please try out my entry https://itch.io/jam/lowrezjam-2018/rate/293637 (don't forget to rate it : ) )
Cheers
This plays just like an old hexen games. The game is very hard to see though. I was able to make it through to the “end”.
Nice entry!
I just have some comments/suggestions about the game:
- There are some performance issues because I got some FPS drops in the game. My PC is not that good but it managed to run perfectly this another entry (https://itch.io/jam/lowrezjam-2018/rate/293403);
- The HUD could be a bit more compact. You're using 8px of height for HP and MP stats, you can do it in a better way using only 4px. This will adjust the contrast between HP/MP and the weapon icon. Also, the HUD will look better on the top of the screen because it is currently hiding the sword;
- There are some issues navigating menus, especially in the inventory menu. There's a bug preventing the buttons from being focused.
-It runs fine on my PC with a lower end graphics card, but I'm going to chalk that up to Unity and the roundabout way I had to get it to run at true 64 64. It wouldn't surprise me if Unity was eating FPS for some people. I have said this in the Discord, but one thing I'd do differently next time for LowRezJam is to use something other than Unity for this kind of low resolution project.
-I'll try to do the UI more nicely next time. I'm not used to working on such a small space.
-Thanks for letting me know. I'll see if I can implement a bug fix. (Bug is now fixed. Surprise! It was a Unity problem.)
Hm, maybe this is some issue with Intel onboard video card. Mine is an Intel HD Graphics 400. Also, I'm on Windows 10.
Very cool - love the style and the evil priest/monk enemies! Seemed very difficult - everything was going fine until I went into a room with a load of them and a fireball throwing one and got toasted!
Thank you, thank you.
I was hoping the game would be difficult- I knew people might be bored if they blew through the level in five minutes with nothing to do. If I wasn't constrained by the deadline of the jam, I would have put more kinds of enemies in that would have had different strategies and weaknesses, but I'll have to do that at a later time.
The game wasn't difficult at all for me.
Hello, I really want to play the game more but it is too hard to see in the dark! Here are some suggestions:
- make the game a bit lighter or the enemies more visible in the dark
- add a quick spell switch, like mouse wheel
- make the sword more effective (this way we don't rely on finding mana potions or going to a mana source) and add a sound when it touches an enemy so we know that we did
Btw I like the effects and the style.
Hello-
I have since adjusted the game on these points. The lights now are brighter in places they are supposed to be and the sword does more damage, without compromising the intended difficulty that goes with using it.
Thank you very much.
Cool 3d space. I'm loving these stylish Low Rez FPS games! The first enemy scared the crap outta me!
If there was a way to go full screen, I didn't figure it out. The white of my screen made the darkness of the game super difficult to see.
