I would love to play more of this game! The art, music, and sound make a rich and compelling atmosphere. Hopefully we'll see more in the future. Some minor feedback: I think the high-pitched squeaky sound was too frequent. Also, I think the camera was a bit high at one point when the player is descending.

game wise there is not much there! Visually though to put together something so slick in a month is no small accomplishment! Looks great love the combination of detailed middleground with single colour foreground and cell shaded background, really great

Thanks for the feedback!  I definitely should have spent a bit less time on art and more on gameplay XD

Maybe but these Jams are always a case of picking your battles as to what you can get in, and what you have to leave out... Your concentration on art has resulted in something really stunning so it was definitely time well spent :)

I appreciate that! :D

A beautiful game, probably aesthetically my favorite game. I unfortunately didn't understand a lot of the game, but the look of the game is enough reason to play for at least a little.

Thanks for the feedback!  I would have liked to have included more of the narrative to explain some of what's going on, but didn't give myself enough time!

Aesthetically, it's great looking game. There are a lot of unique visual elements that make it look like a Japanese watercolor painting. I do have some feedback though:

  • Combat felt a little slow — maybe due to the animation speed or the lack of visual feedback.
  • It's not clear what Metroidvania elements will eventually be added. Will there be abilities or new types of weapons in the future?
  • There was an odd graphical bug where what I assume was a ceiling asset would follow along with the camera and float mid-air.

While short, the look of the game alone gets me excited for what will be added in the future!

Thanks a lot for the feedback!  Regrettably, there was much that I wasn't able to get into the submission such as a town and castle area, obtainable abilities and items and more enemies including mini bosses and a main boss.  What's worse is that I had much of it modeled\animated\coded but just couldn't get it all properly implemented in time DX.  I also wasn't able to develop the combat as much as I wanted.

I will definitely be reevaluating how I prioritize my time for future jam projects!

Man! I can see where this could go and it’s so cool! The art, though unfinished, is nice. The sound and music are good too. And the player movement is well done, though could be more responsive. I also wish that we could slice while jumping, and probably be able to slice up and down while jumping too.

I guess the biggest issue is that there’s no metroidvania in the game so far. I’m sure it was planned/envisioned. Still, this is a great start! Hopefully you’ll continue to work on it, if for nothing else than to gain more experience and have fun with what you’ve started.

We had to cut things too. We had planned 3 levels and some smaller areas, but as time wore on had to limit ourselves to just the one level for now. We hope to one day complete the game. But in the meantime, we’d love to know what you think of it so far! So, if you would, please play, rate and comment on our game to let us know how we’re doing! Thanks!

Thanks for checking it out!  There were definitely -vania elements in the works but, as you say, I just couldn't get 'em in before the deadline.  I'll yours a go as soon as I'm able!

I couldn't continue past the bridge going into the foreground, is that the end?

Developer

Yes, unfortunately, that's all that I had time to get in before the deadline!
