I just finished the game with 7/11 space flesh. Here are my thoughts:
1. I like the intro to the game, and the fact that the tutorial is skippable, so if there were players trying to replay the game and get to finding more flesh, they could get into the action quicker. The visual effect of the ship speeding up was a cool touch.
2. Controls felt mostly nice. The idea that you can alternate fire is nice, although I think currently it is reloading if you try to fire without ammo, when it could start reloading after firing the shots. Some jumps were a little hard to land, although there is a jump shadow, and I do like that the dash can be used in mid air and felt responsive.
3. Enemies had an interesting balance and variety. The cramped hallways made it so that even enemies that just chased you were a high priority. I did think the 'roomba' was at first a helper, trying to lay down bombs that you could use to help destroy the blobs, before I got to the door and realized that the roomba was an enemy. Some rooms felt like they were filled with maybe too many enemies, but you could back up into hallways to make it easier to manage.
4. The bombs are cool too, in that they go off either after a small amount of time, or after shooting them again, which allows them to be used for a lot of cool puzzles.
5. It would be nice if the doors had a different texture that didn't blend in with the hallways, as sometimes it was hard to tell where the entrances/exits were.
Overall, a very neat game, and one that I could see being built upon in the future, or used as a 'basis' for other projects. Great work!
Im glad you liked it and was able to finish, I agree with all you said, thanks for the feedback!
Way to make a 3D first person shooter in 30 days!
I feel like I'm unlocking upgrades too fast. The timing on the sequence where I have to hit 4 buttons in quick succession feels too tight and I couldn't do it.
This game won't start on Mac unless you download it through the itch app. Our game ran into the same issue. If it's the same cause, make sure you send the app to a compressed zipped folder before uploading to itch.
Oops should have made that sequence a bit easier, thanks for the mac tip, I will keep it in mind for future projects
You bet! Us game devs gotta look out for each other. 👌
Nice shooter. The level design is interesting. I also like the music and the sound effects. I think it would be better if the enemy had more response to the damage. And there is a problem when you get the bomb and backtrack out of the green room. The hallway is narrow, and the player can easily be pushed out of the hallway before the door locks. The player can't kill the enemy to unlock the door because they are on the other side. So, the only option is to kill yourself and respawn, which can happen multiple times. Other than that, the game is quite fun.
Thank you, I should have tested the event-areas more and adjust the detection range accordingly, nice to hear that you liked the sfx and music and had fun in genereal.
This was pretty fun! Movement felt snappy and made platforming the best part about this game. Gunplay was also pretty good, but hitting stuff up close was quite hard as shots were not perfectly aligned with the center of the screen, and reloading was a bit too slow. Really liked the combat-focused rooms and that little Roomba spawning mines all around the place!
Graphics were very uncanny, but they give the game a unique look and I kinda appreciate that. Music was a very good fit, too!
I wasn’t sure about the purpose of those dark blobs you pick up across the level, as no explanation was given in-game until the very end.
Overall, despite its simplicity, I had a very fun experience!
Im glad you had fun, thanks
I wish I could have played longer, but I started to get bad vertigo and had to lay down. Here's my feedback recording for you.
Thanks having video footage really helps me out to understand possible design mistakes, biggest one might be insuficient button feedback, probably adding cables from the buttons to their activation object would have avoided that issue, will be more carefull with this type of stuff from now on
Nice concept of shooter, especially liked how music suits the overall feeling for the game. I had a bit of struggle on aiming and jumping because it seems like 21:9 ratio was not expected, but maybe I am wrong. Overall good job!
Thanks, I didnt test 21:9 so probably was bugged lol, will research about the topic for future projects
Again, I might be deceived by some kind of illusion :) It felt like X axis speed is more than Y axis speed basically
Probably because the screen got stretched it gave that ilusion, I guess thres a setting in Godot for preventing that but I havent tried it out yet, thanks for the extra detail
Very simple but works well. Not much to complain about here, except that the textures are rather uncanny and that it wasn't entirely clear that you have to unlock the crouching ability, as it was already listed in the controls unlike the bomb. Took me some time to find it too.
Completely forget to add the bomb input to the controls lol, Im sorry you had a hard time fiding the crouching ability.
Nice little game, an FPS Metroidvania is a good idea, the mechanics work nicely, there's room for some improvement, but overall a good experience. The graphics are not my favourite, but that says nothing bad about the game, as the feel is very good, the movement is solid, and the shooting is satisfying. Nice job!
Thanks, glad you liked the controls
