When I download it for some reason it won't open , so I watched the video , the visuals are amazing I really like the atmosphere , is very different from the games in this jam, and I like the character animation and style, good work !!
(I rated from the video, thought you should know)
Did you extract the folder from the zip file or did you try and run the game whilst it was still compressed inside of the zip file?
Windows will let you open the zip file like a folder and browse the contents, you can even run the exe, but it will fail.
Thanks for rating the game regardless and the positive feedback based on the video.
I did try that, and it gives me an application error
Weird, you're the second one to report a similar issue. Not sure what is going on as it is a Unity 3D thing and so far impossible for me to replicate.
I think it's fine since it's working with the rest
Do you remember what the error said when you tried to run it? Might help me trackdown the cause of it.
This is it :
Thanks, hopefully that will help me figure out what's going on.
I enjoyed playing this game. The story really drew me in and I was trying to piece things together through the story notes in the world. Lovely feature. The atmosphere is very dark and I enjoyed it a lot. The soundtrack is so good and I loved the variety of sound tracks provided in the different areas (outdoor, indoor, underground, etc). The art style fits the theme of the game quite well. Lovely experience.
For some feedback, I think player movement is too slow. There appears to be stamina for running but it's not visualized and it depletes way too quickly. I really wanted to explore but the slow movement felt like punishment for exploring. I understand you need to balance the player speed with enemy speed, so maybe increasing stamina recovery speed or just total stamina when the player is not aggrod by enemies is a good compromise. This is especially problematic in the underground tunnels. It was kinda a drag to explore as the player moves so slowly. Also, when using melee weapons there is no feedback on whether you hit enemies, which makes it hard to know if I'm properly aligned with the enemies. Once you get the gun, it's just steamrolling enemies from there so maybe the gun needs some balancing.
The inventory system is well implemented and I loved the tarot card art. I managed to get 100% in the game but I don't know what to do with the amulet? I thought it was to be used in the pink netherworld-like area but couldn't find a way to use it there. I do think you have some metroidvania elements (having to get the axe to access some areas, locked doors where you need to loop to the other side of the door to open it), so that's cool.
Very nice concept, keep up the great work!
Thanks for playing and for the detailed feedback. Really appreciate it.
I agree the stamina is not clear or well implemented yet, which has been raised by others. I find it frustrating myself. I also feel the tunnels are just not fun yet -- too large to explore and no story stuff in there yet. Combat could use some additional work too.
The amulet you're supposed to put on, and once you do you can speak to the skull in that room (unless it is missing). Seems this isn't clear, perhaps I need to force equip the amulet once you pick it up.
I'll try and give your submission a play before the voting ends. Unfortunately I am going through a lot of personal stuff at the moment and it's hindering what I can do around this jam. But again, thanks for playing and for the detailed feedback.
I enjoyed the story telling and atmosphere, and the visual style is really appealing! The controls felt a bit clunky for me personally. I wanted to be able to walk around faster and the combat left something to be desired.
Thanks for the feedback! You can actually sprint in the game, but it is tied to stamina. Don't think I've made the entire thing a clear as it could be. Combat is a bit clunky but bit stuck on how to make it better for the moment.
It's a very nice game with impressive artwork and sound. I enjoyed playing it. However, I didn't notice any Metroidvania features.
Thanks for playing and for the kind words. Not sure how much you played but it does at least loosely fit the definition of a Metroidvania according to the wikipedia page linked to for the jam. It could be stronger to that effect, and hope to make it more so in the future.
