"Comically sensitive controls" haha. Aside from that, I like infinite runners, and this one is pretty fun. I dig the art!
Glad you liked the art, I did it :p
Mainly challenging because of the comically sensitive controls, but gameplay was fun
Looks fit the theme and suits nice into the limitation. Missed some sound and would've loved being able to jumpt with the skateboard.
Yeah, I would've loved to add some music and sound effects like the siren of the police cars chasing you.
🚓🚓
I wanted to implement the jump ability but ran out of time! 😅
Controls are a bit oversensitive (though playing with a gamepad seemed to help) but the base of the game is otherwise pretty solid ! I'm wondering, what did you use PICO-8 for, out of curiosity ? My guess would be the pixel flowers and grass assets but I'm not sure.
A minor touch that could have helped it stand out a bit would have been giving the skater some vertex color, even without any proper texture that would have done a good job at representing N64 aesthetics for the character. Neat game in all cases :)
Thanks for the feedback! Our 2D pixel artist used PICO-8 to create the sprites for texturing models (roads, pavements, flowers, etc) :)
Oh so I was almost right, it was the side sprite. Didn't even know you could export sprites created in PICO. Cheers to the team for the game :
Actually, the sprites were made in Aseprite, it's what I use to make pixel art, and there's the PICO-8 palette pre-installed in it, so all the sprites are made in Aseprite, using the PICO-8 palette, and exported the sprites

Oh thanks for clearing that up :) I use Aseprite but I didn't notice PICO-8 was one of the available palettes, it's good to know. I assume it's to be able to paint in Aseprite to then import the graphics in PICO.
Yeah I guess so, I mostly used that palette because the N64 games are usually very bright
skateboarding feels good but it would be better with timer instead of insta-death.. let us practice a bit and hit obstacles would slow down... want play more and die less xD
Actually, we had a totally different idea for this game, but the game developper (Shady) had an issue and delayed the project a bit and we had to change the objective of the game in order to be able to complete and submit the game
sure, that happens...
