Software used
I used Phaser (game framework), Piskel (art), GIMP (art), Beepbox.co (music), Bfxr (sound effects), and the Font Squirrel Webfont Generator (font packaging).

Use of the limitation
The cactus does not want to use violence to get the other cacti away from it, so it uses a shield to deter them. I completely changed the idea of the game after the first 24 hours of the jam--at first, the cactus was nonviolently deterring humans using an umbrella while simultaneously trying to grow. However, now the cactus deters other cacti using a shield.

Cookies eaten
I am sorry to say that I did not consume any cookies while developing my game. :P

sad cactus D:

but in seriousness — i think other control methods (arrow keys? mouse-only? controller-support?) would have made this a lot easier for those not using a qwerty keyboard

aside from that, it was paced well, sounded nice, and was pretty fun!

tho i agree with another comment here that it feels a bit silly having rocket-cactuses being slower than grounded cactuses

Quite a funny and sad story. The cactus considers other cacti to be its enemies, but these cacti just wanted to be friends with him. Good game, too long in some places, but that's okay. Good game!

Thanks!

Of course the cactus doesn’t want those impostors anywhere near it. Any self-respecting cactus knows that cacti are rooted to the ground.

suspicion

It was also strange that the rocket “cacti” were slower than the ground-based “cacti”.

Developer

What do you mean? All the cacti I’ve seen have moved.

Just kidding.

Thanks for the feedback!

Congratulation on your first game jam project - it's a well-made mini game! I really enjoyed the game as it's quite easy to learn and overall somehow relaxing. The idea of an anti-social cactus is a quite funny idea too.

Thanks!

Nice chill game. Would have liked for the pace of the enemies in the earlier levels to be a bit faster. The transitions between levels were also a little too slow. Looks very pretty though, so good job.

I really liked this game. It was really easy to understand. Although, I think the cacti should be a little faster on the earlier stages, so you don't wait around too much. Other than that, it was really good.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! :)

It was a really nice game to play! One thing you could maybe "improve" is to allow the key arrows to work too. I'm playing on an AZERTY keyboard, and it was quite hard to remember which key I needed to use since it's not the ones we are used to here (for this someone using this keyboard would have used Q, Z, and D). Other than that, great job!

Thanks for playing! Thanks for the feedback as well – I didn’t even think about different keyboard layouts, I’m sorry that it affected gameplay for you.

I really enjoyed this game, it has a fun little story, and the gameplay is easy to understand but can be challenging. It took me a minute to understand that you have to your mouse in the later levels, but i figured that out too.

Thanks for playing! :)

As a sometimes antisocial cactus in human form, I enjoyed this very much!

Lol, thank you!
