This game is a lot of fun! I'm not sure how you handled the spawning of the spiders; if there were just set points they'd show up, on a timer or whatever, but it had the feeling of Alien: Isolation where it seemed like they could pop up anywhere, any time.

I would have definitely put a pause menu in there, however. And it may just be my setup but for me the cursor was wonky - it was still active on my 2nd monitor while playing.

But yeah, this is a rad game!

Developer

Thanks for playing the game! In case you wanted to know this is how the spiders work: They start in the mess hall in their roaming state (in this state they just pick random points within the limits of the room to go to), after a randomized time between 20 seconds to about 40 at most the spider changes to leave the room, they do this through the vents on the ceiling, then they decide on a random room to go to, the spider then drops down from that vent (it is actually super dangerous to stand right below a vent since the spider might just jump right on top of you), then when there they start roaming again. If they see the player (direct line of sight) they try to charge him, within the confines of their current room, still giving the player a chance to escape. Personally it was based off of Mr. X from Resident Evil 2 and the way he is constantly searching around to get you in the police station, but with the sci-fi setting it might definetly be closer to Alien: Isolation now you say it!

I'll keep a pause menu in mind for future jam games! I sadly only have one monitor, I did not realize Unity didn't bind the mouse to the screen. I'll see how this is done and try to implement it with what little time I have left! Thank you for you feedback and I am super glad you think the game is rad :D

Developer

New (and final release) have the cursor locked to the screen. Thank you for making me aware of this issue!

Really impressive 3D Game, the texturing looks amazing and I love what you made with the assets. Over all really cool entry and the fixes you've made definitely helped the game a lot already. Would be amazing if you could add a WebGL build but I'm guessing it would lag to hard to actually work properly.  Nevertheless amazing entry and well done.

Developer

Thank you so much! I haven't tried a webgl build, but I might see if it'll run ^^

Cool game, like what you did with the lighting. I'm not sure if it was a bug but the FOV changed when I picked up the flashlight and it was a bit jarring. Also pls make intro cutscene skippable, after a few deaths it made me not want to sit through the intro again. Also the textures felt a little bit flat, I don't know anything about 3D so I don't know how you would fix that. Overall though it's impressive what you put together in such a small amount of time.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks man, I don't believe the FOV should change, so if that genuinly that's a bug >.> Otherwise it might just be a side effect that it looks like that happened because of the bright light from the flashlight. I'm about to upload a newer version of the game with some post processing effects and bug fixes so hopefully it'll look a lot less flat! In the new version you'll also skip the intro when you replay!
EDIT: New version is now downloadable

ok ill check it out once it's uploaded

okay i played it again! definitely looks a lot better. I managed to get the smoothie this time but I couldn't figure out how to get in the control module. Also I accidentally clipped out of bounds twice when running away from a spider, twice. I think it's my fight or flight defense mechanism LMAO. Unfortunately the second time I couldn't get back in bounds and there wasn't a restart function (that I know of). ( seems i can only attach one image so i will reply to my post with the second)

All good, I enjoy being out of bounds in games tbh, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention in case you had time to fix it

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks again for bringing it to my attention! I wish I did have the time, but that's the nature of a game jam. Thanks again for playing and testing!

EDIT: Accidentally hit the delete button on my previous reply instead of edit >.> oops

Developer

oh also, if you still wish to finish the game:

SPOILERS
You go to the storage after getting the smoothie for the scientist, you do the jumping puzzle to get the screwdriver, you can then use the screwdriver to open the vent in the hallway next to the command module. After that you should be able to figure the rest out easy peasy ^^

Submitted

Ohh I didn't even meet a scientist, I was totally on the wrong track!

Developer

haha, the game is very much based on how a game like Resident Evil 2 works; you explore to discover new things, you can sequence break (like if you pick up the smoothie the scientist gets killed, but this can happen before you've ever talked to him, he just gives you a hint on what to do next; in his case "make me a smoothie" basically, you should have been able to hear his dead screams when you picked up the smoothie :P), dying doesn't necesarilly mean no progress, your knowledge from the previous run can help on the next one (by solving a puzzle early or being able to do them quicker). Anyways I'll stop talking (or typing) your head off XD

Submitted

Ohhh I see, I heard his screams but it didn't connect for me. I am the type of person specifically not built for this game LMAO I'm the guy that skips all the dialogue without paying attention and rushes to the next objective

Developer(+1)

Lmao, I really like weeving story and gameplay together, and games that do that, but I get how if you ignore it all it might get a bit trial and error :P Also, unrelated note; Really looking forward to playing your game as well, looks super interesting but I'm waiting for the rating periods to start so it'll be the latest version ^^

If anyone finds a bug before the deadline of the GameJam and posts it in the comments I'll try to fix it in the remaining 5 hours of work time I got left over!

EDIT: After the first update I now have slightly less than 2 hours left over.

EDIT 2: Almost out of time, spend the last hour and a half trying to fixing a out of bounds clipping issue, sadly I ran out of time before I found a solution. Due to this this issue is also still present in the final product to stick with the Miz Jam rules of less than 48 work hours.
