ok so, I joined the jam but didn't have enough time to finish my submission.
Still I was curious about the entries this month and like, we had the same idea! haha
My game is (was? still is?) called "The City of Roem Is Sinking". I came to this idea of water rising since I was having a lot of conflict with the jam theme being "survive"...like at first all I could think of was violence or horror and I don't want to design violent or stressful experiences for people (only love, sharing, discovery, wisdom, ALCHEMICAL TRANSF---!! ok, you get it)...
Then for some reason I started singing this silly song in my head about how the city of rome was sinking (to later find out that it actually is!), and thought it'd be simple enough to let you roam the city, looking for flowers or fruit as an offering to Saint Azucena (a statue on a plaza at the top of the city) to ask this statue to stop the city from sinking.
oc one week was not enough to finish this, but i got pretty close so i feel inclined to keep going (which is, at the end, the purpose of the jam being fulfilled).
Congrats on actually finishing and submitting on time! :)
btw i'm tobi on the jam's discord.
Wow what a coincidence! It’s really funny we got the same idea. Your version sounds very cool, and I hope you get to finish!
I love the premise for this game and could definitely see it being developed into a great little puzzle game with the introduction of a few additional mechanics.
To make this more interactive with the VR player I would recommend slowing the water down and allowing the player to grab and rotate the tower.
Some music would also be a great way to immediately boost it's impact. Despite the tension of rising water I felt quite relaxed playing this game, probably because of all the open water. A nice up beat chill out tune would really lift it.
And maybe a victory sound and some particle effect for the rocket launch.
Good job!
Thank you for the feedback! Perhaps your sound settings were wrong because the game does indeed have music and sound effects (including the victory sound you suggest). The other thing you suggest is rotating the tower - you can do that by pressing both grab buttons and turning your hands (Brass Tactics-style).
I’m glad you still had some fun and that you love the premise, thank you for playing and commenting!
Okay I managed to play at last. Nice game however a little challenging and didn't have a lot of VR mechanics. Good job though!
Thank you for playing! Yes, some people prefer a harder game and some people prefer easier. In hindsight I should have added a difficulty setting that changes the speed of the water.
