Did you use any optional theme? If so which one?

Outside ur comfort zone

What game engine did you use?
Inky

Something you wanna say? ٩(^▽^)۶ (optional)
Thanks for checking out my game! This was my first time in a game jam AND my first time using Inky, so I was definitely operating outside of my comfort zone. Feel free to leave any feedback. I'd appreciate it!

Nice job setting up the story within such a short conversation, both the little details and the background photo really helped paint a picture! I also enjoyed the frog fact at the end, it was an interesting way to tie their struggles in with the theme!

Thank you for playing and for the feedback, Laura!

The story was nice. The details on the game page help to set the scene since it is entirely a text based adventure. I appreciate the restart and theme buttons. Unfortunately I couldn't get the save / load feature to work. Still overall good work!

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! The save/load feature wasn't an intentional feature, so I need to learn more about Inky to either remove them  or actually have those work in the future.

For a first game jam entry: Thumbs up! Good world building, plot and characters here, to refer to the main page ;). Also it has replayability to get all the events.

What did I like

  • The progression of the story through actions more than through words. You used the actions of the protagonists to tell the story between the lines, while the conversation at some points only showed how they try to get along with the situation by playing it funny and joking around. That is a really nice approach to tell the story. A good mix. Well executed.
  • You made a theme choice and added a dark theme, that gives bonus points ^^

What can be improved

  • IMHO the save and load features are not so important here. I played through the story a couple of times but I haven't used them. I simply restarted. So - if this took you a bit of time to implement at all - save that time next time :)
  • A nice quiet ambience music would have suited that game well, to further underline the story. If you ever in need of such things, ask in discord or here in the discussion forums. There are a lot of friendly composers out there eager to help you.
  • Since it is fully text, you could have used some more features of text to spice up the game a bit. For example, when writing DANA or YOU, you could have used a slightly different color or font or write it italic. Or you could have given the both of them different colors, only slightly colored above the main color (so: I do not mean neon colors, you know, just some bright pastel or so)
  • Although it said: YOU all the time, the story in my head was those of two people, that I was just witnessing. I think this is due to the fact that the story is not relatable to me right now. I think it would have been just as efficient to tell the story from the 3rd perspective.

Overall I liked your game and I think I played trough all possible events. Now that you have some experience in making such a game, I hope to see another INK game of yours soon :).

Keep up the good work!

Thank you for playing, and for your detailed feedback! I'm glad to hear that the story and how it was presented through the text worked for you, as that was the area I really focused on when making it. And I agree with all of the improvements you suggested. Having a visual and musical element to the game would definitely enhance the story, so I hope to add that in the next version. And the save feature...I think Ink created that automatically? If anything, that lets me know that I still have a bit to learn in Ink :)

Cute little story. Some visuals would have been nice, but it was still charming all the same.

Developer

Thanks for playing, and for the feedback! I agree that a visual element would help, and I hope to add that in the next version.

Lovely writing! The conversation between these characters flows so naturally and I love how you captured the secret lexicon and in-jokes that couples have. Great work!
